Ellen Pao Steps Down as CEO of Reddit submitted by ClassicLiberaltarian to news

owyn_merrilin 0 points 121 points (+121|-0) ago

It means Ellen Pao is no longer CEO. If she was really the person dictating the changes, then yes. But if it was the money people doing it,we've just traded one figurehead for another.

is Voat becoming a cesspool of racist keyboard warriors? (the opposite of an SJW) submitted by skippy_the_kangaroo to AskVoat

Wound up in a "debate" over how a single, uncorrected for factors like poverty and urbanization, statistic supposedly proved that black people were naturally violent yesterday. The actual topic was about how reddit threads about the shooting in Virginia were getting deleted. On reddit, I hated the SJWs but didn't mind the racists because the SJWs were everywhere while the racists tended to stay in their own dank little corners and leave the rest of us alone. Here on voat the racists are everywhere, and the SJWs have dank little corners. Both situations suck.

Actually, I'd rather have a universal draft whether we need it or not. Getting rid of the draft is what allows us to fight perpetual wars. Vietnam ended because everybody knew somebody who went off to die for no good reason. The war on terror never will because the military makes up a miniscule percentage of the population, and it recruits from what amounts to a warrior caste -- families with a "history of service" who have been brainwashed for generations to glorify a rather nasty job on the one hand, and poor people at the end of their financial rope who have nothing to lose by dying and everything to gain if they can get in on the GI bill on the other.

If you want to be done with your reddit account, you can do better than deleting it. Consider programmatically overwriting all your comments with an exit message. Full instructions are included. submitted by frankenmine to MeanwhileOnReddit

Or he could just have issues with the very concept of intellectual property. Even if I were to completely shut down my reddit profile, I wouldn't delete the comments because I believe information should be free, and if someone learns something because I shared it, well, that's why I shared it in the first place. If you want to delete your comments, fine, be my guest, but don't try to push your idea of ideological purity on others. They may just be following a different one entirely.

Evangelical Liberty University received half a billion dollars in federal aid money. One conservative college got more government cash than NPR last year submitted by deleted to politics

There is, however, a certain amount of hypocrisy in expecting a religious college to continue receiving federal funding while complaining about non profit groups that do things that your religion doesn't agree with getting the same. Or rather, in a country with separation of church and state, doing the latter sets up room for people who don't share your views to start attacking the former.

Kind of nitpicky. You have to be accepted to an accredited school to get the loans in the first place, it's not like it's a general loan anyone can get for any reason.
