Well, Germany bans it in public displays not history books and certainly not all uses - you can Swastika your brains out in a history museum or in a documentary film or even in a fictional historical film in Germany and Austria. The Swastika is banned in public displays to avoid the extreme unrest that would ensue. Like not being allowed to yell "fire!" in a crowded theater. So your analogy would be like saying that banning stabbing people is the same as banning surgery. The Confederate Flag is not banned - it just can no longer stand as the de facto - if not de jure - State Flag of South Carolina - because its position directly centered in front of the Capitol was intentionally done to make it the state flag of South Carolina - and that's not only insanely disrespectful to at least 25% of SC tax payers, it's also bad for business. The flag is not banned. They are just moving it. Secondly, it does not honor the vast majority of South Carolina's war dead because double the number of those fell under the flag of the United States of America over the course of the history of the State of South Carolina. And of the approx. 15,800 South Carolinans who died in the Civil War only half of them fought under the Confederate Battle Flag - because SC didn't adopt it as a Battle Flag until 1863 with the rest of the Confederacy - so 11 states - and they only did that to confuse the Union as to the whereabouts of Lee - because this was the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virgina. You probably didn't know that. What you did know is that the KKK started using this flag to oppose civil rights and that's what every one else knows. Moving it is simply good business, if nothing else. Finally, that flag has been used to support slavery and apartheid (which is simply the Dutch word for 'segregation') - two things that are not state's rights but licenses for tyranny. So it's not honoring the majority of SC's fallen soldiers, it's not a historical flag that is unique to SC and it certainly doesn't stand for rights. And they are not banning it - they are moving the 1863-1865 Battle Flag of the Confederacy - also a symbol of treason - so it does not serve as the de facto state flag. (NB: This is why people like Rick Scott want you to pay more to take history courses in college.) If you are angry about the Flag being moved complain to the KKK not to the State Legislature because the KKK are the ones who made that flag into an unmistakable symbol of racial hatred. Sigh.

It just seems like socially relevant threads are getting completely subverted in the comments - not that that didn't happen before - but it seems to be all that's happening now.

I lived for 10 years in the South - the sad part is that there's racism on all sides in the North too. They found out that there are a lot of "Southerners" in the North - Out in Minnesota, fire companies were flying the Stars and Bars on the Blood Banner this 4th of July. So the optimism is guarded - that is to say - what if what I call the horrible "Southification" of the United States was originally part of scheme that meant well. It did show that South and North are more similar that either would have thought. It's what the current success of GOP is based on. Hey if Hitler could use racism to unite the Catholic South with the Protestant North in Germany, why not try it in the U.S.? What could possibly go wrong? (O.K. so I exaggerated the "optimist" bit.)

Nice!! - Yeah typical of Bojack the full statement is part of cynical comment on relationships - but I think it's demonstrably false that everyone or even most in long term relationships stagnate - but the first part of the statement is true. "Your age of stagnation is when you stop growing. For most, it's when they get married, settle into a routine. You meet someone who loves you unconditionally and never challenges you or wants you to change, and then you never change." I think I'll go with Neil Peart for a better way to express this sentiment: "Unstable condition / A symptom of life / In mental and environmental change [. . . ] Pause, rewind, replay / Warm memory chip / Random sample, hold the one you need. "

My wallet was wearing out and I wanted another men's wallet with a change purse - reg was $50 - I got it for $20 - I also wanted to by a pair of both tooth speakers - because my 1990s speakers were really really really bad - and I got I nice set for $70 and they had the reg price at $130 and I've seen them for around that. So I thought it was a good deal. I should have gotten bed sheets too - shit just thought of it now. Dammit.
