That's not the point of Linux at all. While you can (and very easily) avoid using propriety software in Linux, you can use it just as easily. Linux provides many more advantages than just that (such as being generally more lightweight). It also has plenty of cons as well.

I've seen a similar incident occur with one of the Opal contributors. It's fucking ridiculous that they think they can remove people from a project based on political beliefs.

I also really don't think Randi knows what GamerGate truly is either.

Try out Angband or Brogue, they are pretty cool "classical" roguelikes.

Crypt of the Necrodancer is also really good. Instead of turns, you have a beat to move to. There is also a mod that has you move on the melody instead of the rhythm.
