This Man's Patent Could Be The One To Destroy Monsanto- Make This Go Viral To Change The World submitted by AaronSwartzrolling to news

You mean the article saying

Make This Go Viral To Change The World

might not be up to par?

Anyways the Patent is a way better read even if you just look at the summary, it looks interesting enough and seems like mycopesticides could be a good enough alternative for farmers once the kinks have been figured out.

Feel like I'm hitting a wall with books submitted by Duz to books

Maybe you are also just fed up with the "internet" books that are all in my opinion very anglo and samey, maybe you'd like some russian literature (Arkadi and Boris Strugatzky is wonderful and so is Bulgakov)

Read books that have been written in a different cultural and literary context. And even if you don't like it, it will feel refreshing to read something different.

For the benefit of newcomers, what behavior was acceptable on Reddit but totally unacceptable here? submitted by Mattvision to AskVoat

nilceps 0 points 12 points (+12|-0) ago

Of course now I can't find it but there was a reddit post about the average comment length over the years and per subreddit. The most interesting thing was that overall the length of the comments went down, which just means that mid-long comments about opinions and explanations were getting replaced by short memes and jokes, also even though the long comments might have had more upvotes in the end the joke comments were more 'economical' just because making a joke takes maybe 1 minute and gets 500 upvotes while a long comment could take up to 1 hour to write up and 'only' getting 1000 votes.

13 "Top 100 Books" lists combined and condensed into one master list, for the benefit of your reading pleasure. 623 books in all submitted by Dumbtickles to books

nilceps 2 points -2 points (+0|-2) ago

Are you trying to tell me that Lord of the flies #20 is more of a classic than The Sorrows of Young Werther #487 (This is literally a book that defined a generation, that kicked off the "Sturm und Drang" and shaped german fashion), or Mrs Dalloway #33 is more than La divina commedia #106 is Great Expectations #41 (I mean Dickens has 7 Books on that list and someone like Shakespear has 5) is more of a classic than The Master and Margarita #153 (A great take on the old faustinian tale)

Does being American count against the authors? No of course it shouldn't but when a book list has an overwhelming amount of american authors then I'm going to assume that that book list is bullshit and it's not about classics and is just lazy circlejerking about having read a few books in school.

If people don't know where to start then why would anyone tell them to start with The Great Gatsby, Grapes of Wrath, 1984 or Ulysses. This is the worst starting reading list I could imagine, and they have been handed around for quite some time and people are still reading less and less.

Do you have no friends that have different political opinions? Do you just hang around with the people that agree with you? What I see what is see isn't humans being humans but communities showing weird mannerisms like saying "We are about discussions" while they are not.
