But most that are unlearned in the ways of Boolean logic apply it that way, unfortunately. Remember, they also treat or as xor.

I found a podcast on iTunes recently, called from python import podcast, and while they're a pretty small operation, one thing they did manage to get was this good interview/panel discussion with a core dev for Py3K and a core dev for Django. From what I understood, Py3K is designed to take the gun aimed at new users' feet away, as well as promote Unicode to being default. The u'string' syntax had to be brought back, however, in Python 3.3, because too many old scripts use it. The Py3K guy even flat out states that it does nothing in Python 3, but it's there for compatibility reasons.

For new Python people, like myself, the recommended learning process is to learn Python 3 -> Python 2.7 -> any older Python you may need.

EDIT: the discussion in question.

Fair enough; I've only been a Python person for about two months (this person on Reddit wanted me to help with converting his card game project to a wen app, so I decided that it was a good ~~excuse~~ opportunity to actually try and learn Python, even if I wasn't sure what version to learn.

And regarding the bytes/unicode thing, I ran into the problem trying to compose cards with card art that was png and templates that were jpeg (I had been practicing using MtG card templates) in Pillow. Eventually I just rewrote the module using Wand and ImageMagick, since it was just a demo module, but I could totally see the issue there and the usefulness of the __past__ module, which I'd seen other people ask for it, as well.
