Family of six loses income after Theatre is forced to close after five years of being a successful business due to landlord not fixing code violations. Please sign the petition. submitted by ivoat777 to Landlord

If you check out your website you will see that they went throught that process. Instead of punishing the landlords the city punished the theater and shut them down. The same building has other tenants a gym etc that are still operating a year later under all of the code violations, including the fact that it is zoned as a warehouse yet used as a theater, and a gym etc. it does not have the proper sprinklers, fire exits, doors, etc. Remember the warehouse that was being used as a housing area for those kids in Oakland that died in that huge fire? "The Ghost Ship" remember that? Well code violations are a huge thing. You can see all of this documented on the web site http://openwindowtheatre.org/

Landlord won't fix code violations, Popular Local Theater gets evicted! submitted by ivoat777 to Landlord

No they could not. It was zoned as a warehouse and leased to them as a theater https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/illegal-landlords#.WXfmHdr7xVM.facebook

Help save this theatre that is going under because the landlord has a huge list of code violations they won't fix and the City of Minneapolis is taking it out on the theater not the landlords. submitted by ivoat777 to newsubverses

Then everything and everyone is done for. We only need two more signatures. See how easy you give up, a theater company is better at fighting this then you. Also, in Minnesota's defense, Did the Police Chief step down as a direct result of these incidents (Castille & Dimond) ? Yes. Did the great people of Minneapolis and Minnesota step up to the plate and handle business to make that happen? Yes. Now, your point?

Here is a link to the City Pages article which gives you more information on what is happening in this case. http://www.citypages.com/arts/open-window-theatre-cancels-season-amid-bitter-dispute-with-building-owners/395416641 Basically the City of Minneapolis is punishing the tenant and not the landlord because the landlord rented the space to the tenant, the Open Window Theatre Company, as a place that was suitable to operate a theater. For five years open Window Theater Company operated out of Metropolis where they rented space. They were a huge success and needed to expand (there were only two bathrooms). They needed to get a permit to make the expansion to a rented property at their own expense. While the building inspectors from the City of Minneapolis where there they cited the tenants not the landlords for the conditions of the building. Which is of course owned by the landlords. Metroplis and Space Unlimited the parent company. If you research either of those names in the court record they have a history of doing this to many tenants. It is not worth it to bring it to court in the city of Minneapolis so they are trying it to public opinion. Many people got laid off, and a wife and husband with six kids lost a profitable business and their income and the city lost a beloved theater. If you read the comments on the petition you will see that this theater has a pretty big following. This isn't only an attack on a theater this is an attack on all small businesses if this is allowed.
