Anyone good at making games, but suck at music? What did you do? Did it work out? submitted by Lilgreen13 to gamedev

I learned Famitracker, as it's the most relevant tool to the type of games I make. Composing music that sounds good is really hard, so usually when I'm making a tutorial or something easy, I just lean on OpenGameArt. Rather than spend the time tracking audio.

For other, non-retro games, I've used a friend for Ukulele songs before..

[Discussion] What is the most pretentious video game you know and what makes it pretentious? submitted by profanion to gaming

imakeretrogames 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Depression Quest. Everything about this game makes it pretentious. Its a text based "game" about living with depression, made made by a SJW who claimed that wizardchan (a forum for horribly depressed young men) was harassing her. All criticisms of the game were labeled as sexism or harassment. The game got a lot of undue attention because of the whole burger & fries and gamergate thing.

What's your favorite retro game and why? submitted by imakeretrogames to gaming

PS1 is definitely old enough to be retro. If your game console is old enough to go drinking, it's old enough to count as retro.

I'm cloning a bunch of old Atari games to try to get to the OneGameAMonth leaderboards.

GameMaker Studio. The engine is very powerful, and the difference between building something for Windows and building something for Android is a selection in a drop down menu.

Ever Beaten A Game Without Dying? submitted by Dashippy to gaming

SMB 1 2 and 3. I didn't have many games as a kid, so I got super good at the ones I did have.

I could also probably beat Killer Instinct on it's highest difficulty setting with my eyes closed.
