RIP Reddit 2005-2015 Its dead Jim submitted by go1dfish to MeanwhileOnReddit

To me, the most aggravating thing about the press surrounding recent Reddit controversies is the continual way that /r/fatpeoplehate is mischaracterized.

It was not a troll subreddit, and it was not a harassment subreddit in the sense of harassing named, non-celebrity individuals.

The fat acceptance movement, like most of its SJW ilk, is ultimately totalitarian - not even in a Stalinist sense but in a Maoist sense. It's not enough in 2015 to just not bully fat people and leave them alone to mind their own business - no, not anymore. In the modern era, you have to ritualistically bow down and proclaim that fat people (fat women, specifically and most prominently) are beautiful. Not only that, but any and all indication that some other type of person (and woman, specifically and most prominently) might be more beautiful has to be suppressed as "triggering" and "exclusionary", whether it's in an ad for a protein drink or in a Hollywood film or in porn or on your own Facebook page.

/r/fatpeoplehate was a revolutionary space, made up of people who had collectively decided to reject the Orwellian demands of the fat acceptance movement, to say FUCK YOU, I refuse to lie and say you're beautiful. And I refuse to change our entire visual culture to accomodate your feelings. And I don't care what triggers you, and I don't want to hear your bullshit about your genetics any more.

It was definitely not a troll subreddit. And it wasn't a minor subreddit, either - the traffic stats don't support that. In fact, that's why it had to be killed - because it was successful. As long as these "hate" subreddits got no traffic, nobody cared. Pao had to strike when she did because FPH was taking over the entire site.

Is it just me or has Google search results become shitty? submitted by stillinit to technology

I have found that two things in particular have destroyed Google Search in the last couple of years:

  1. That hummingbird crap destroyed the entire concept of a Boolean search. You can get a little better results if you go into Tools and choose a verbatim search. Nothing like it was years ago, though - to defeat the SEO guys, Google killed itself.

  2. The Image results tab (I don't mean Image Search, which is actually getting better) has been utterly destroyed by Pinterest. Fuck you, Pinterest. Now instead of images of the thing I've searched for, I get EVERY image from the Pinterest of some dumb bitch who LIKES the thing I've searched for. I would gladly see every Pinterest employee burn to death in the street.

There are a great many people in the world who can't actually produce anything when it's just them and an empty page, and those people tend to get by in life by socializing to cover up their deficiency.

Those people abhor anyone who just wants to see your work and doesn't want to get schmoozed.

These guys are helping destroy what's left of western civilization. Leave them be.

We have to hit bottom before we can rebuild. This kid is putting his foot through the bottom of the culture's bucket. We should applaud him.

While it's true that the CIA used drug smuggling to raise off-budget funds for black operations, it's really kind of ludicrous to claim that this "caused the crack epidemic".

First of all, the CIA operations in question were ultimately a trivial percentage of the overall US drug trade. The CIA was opportunistically taking advantage of a large existing black market as a funding source. They didn't create that market, and certainly never came anywhere close to dominating it.

In addition, the cocaine trade was well entrenched in inner city communities by the 80's. The crack "epidemic" was actually almost certainly caused by mid to late 80's attempts at drug trade interdiction, which had the result of raising the street price of cocaine. "Crack" started out as an attempt to improve the potency of cocaine delivery while adulterating its weight with baking soda. Potency experimentation and adulteration experimentation are both pretty standard black market responses to price increases. It was just an accident of history that this particular exercise in adulteration "won the lottery", so to speak, and created an incredibly popular new "product".

So this just happened.. Waddled up, saw me pulling in, continued to use the DRIVETHRU ATM anyway.. submitted by ICanWipeMyOwnAss to fatpeoplehate

Fat people suck...but no, it's not.

The drive-thru is not on the public way, so no traffic laws at all apply to it.

You're thinking of interstates. There are no pedestrians on interstates. Drive-thru ATM's? A different story.

If there's an ATM inside the bank that I can access, sure I'll use that. But that's not always the case. Sometimes there's nothing but a drive-thru kiosk. Will I use that on foot? Fuck yes I will.
