Our provider, hosteurope.de shut down our servers due to "political incorrectness" submitted by Atko to announcements

Next is the .co domain, hotwheels lost ownership of his 8chan.co domain for a few hours/days because there was "content violating the rules" which was one of the reasons he switched to 8ch.net.

Moe is also the only moderator on /v/worldnews. Definitely too important of a sub to have only 1 person moderating it.

All this talk of reigning in power moderators avoids a bigger, better question: How do we make moderators (and rules, and bots) unnecessary? I have a proposal to do just that, and build a better Voat. submitted by Amarok to ideasforvoat

I think there's a good chance this system will succeed in maintaining quality in larger subs. The biggest practical problems I see with it is that it might create elitism and that the older subscribers don't necessarily upvote what's best for the majority of the sub, but what's best for the few very dedicated users. These problems can probably be fixed though.

The reason I don't like this idea is that it would do away with the philosophy that every opinion is equal. It would probably be good for quality control, but I reject the idea of some users' votes being worth more than others.

Fappening is illegal because photos are subject to copyright. Using photos someone else took is a violation of copyright unless you have permission.

The reason it's has never(?) resulted in a conviction is because the one hosting the picture has always taken it down, the one linking to the picture has always removed the links, like voat is doing now or the one hosting/linking the picture wasn't important enough for rightsholders to care about suing them.

Just because it's done a lot doesn't make it legal. Any rightsholder has the right to demand that these photos are taken down. In 99.9% of the cases they don't which is why these sites generally allow it. It's still illegal and Atko said he would remove illegal content. He could've waited on the takedown notice, but decided to take action before having to deal with legal issues.
