So I went to Portland... submitted by ChanceofRain to whatever

You are not exaggerating or imagining things. I live here and it keeps getting worse and worse.

For example this afternoon I went to one of those high end hippie type grocery stores to get some fruit. I walked around the corner to pick out some chips and an employee with long pink hair, makeup, wrist bands and who knows what else turned and looked directly at me. He feigned as if he wanted to help me but I got the impression he just wanted my tacit approval that I didn't mind he was dressed like a My Little Pony doll. I didn't validate him and he seemed concerned. When I checked out I was fortunate to find a short line with one of the sweet old lady Bernie supporter types. Aisles 2 and 3 were manned by a ham planet lesbian type (skrillex hair, pink hair, weird clothes) and one of the aforementioned flaming failed barista dudes.

My next stop was up the street to get lunch to take home. The guy who took my order was once again totally flaming. He let out a bored sigh has he took my order, one of those types that perpetually annoyed at everything.

Then I went to a nearby high end butcher shop to get some lunch meat. The floor manager guy must have still been high from pride week because he kept making gay innuendos to the kitchen staff. They kept sort of brushing him off like haha but he didn't seem to get the hint and just kept right on letting everyone know every thought he was thinking in his very loud, very gay voice. And amazingly he also gave me the impression that he wanted my non verbal approval. While waiting for my order he walked by me a few times, kept trying to draw me into conversation or catch my eye. I was just reading articles on my phone, amazed at how just running errands is like being on an episode of the Love Boat. He was chatting with a waitress and started whispering as if to imply "we'd better not disturb the guy reading his phone". All because I wouldn't give him attention and acknowledgement that I don't give a fuck that he's gay. My lack of acknowledgement that I didn't give a fuck wasn't the right kind of acknowledgement apparently.

I don't know if any of this is making sense, but yes the OP is completely correct. It's crazy here. I mostly hide in my house, biding my time until I sell my house to a Californian, the Saudies or the Chinese and get the hell out. The amount of multi-layered validation seeking behavior I see on a daily basis would blow your mind if you live in an area without these beasts.

"The difference between a welfare state and a totalitarian state is a matter of time." {Ayn Rand}. submitted by sept to politics

At this point I'm pretty much convinced people that dislike, I mean hate, Ayn Rand do so because she has highlighted the benefits of taking personal responsibility and that's threatening to their current lifestyle. It's just theory, ideas, concepts yet people love to proudly proclaim how she is a failure, her ideas suck, ect... The real issue is the cognitive dissonance that gets manifested when slackers start understanding her message.

Prioritize taking care of yourself before your spread yourself too thin taking care of others, or eventually neither of you will be able to take care of yourselves -- ooh so stupid and scary! It's simply a different strategy for treating people humanely that doesn't involve slavery (welfare system) or working on the states plantation. But in order to implement this people would have to do things like admit communism is stupid, use their own applied intelligence to create things instead of watching tv/playing video games, take personal responsibility for their behavior. Not to mention many people only vote for democratic candidates because they think it will get them "free" stuff. If that were taken away many politicians would be out of a job or would have to work harder. These people probably work harder to maintain the status quo than actually trying to achieve the top levels of Maslow's hierarchy. Like crabs trying to get out of a bucket they would rather pull each other down then let anyone escape from the bucket of sloth and dependence.

I'm DONE. Just torched my entire life to the ground and I don't regret it. submitted by jackofdiamonds to politics

"Sadly... the simple truth is the reaction you are seeing is coming from them knowing deep down... they might have been wrong all this time."

Yes. Some of the people I know who got really depressed and couldn't handle the election results are completely sure of themselves and have kind of a know it all attitude. Their egos can't handle being that wrong, the incongruence between reality and their bubble world is too obvious to be ignored.

Why do all your posts come off as kind of pushy? They are all making some sort of clickbait-esque statement, seem to imply there is a sense of urgency, imply there is a problem "something must be done" or "who will be held accountable?".

Maybe you have a reason or rational explanation, but your posts don't seem to indicate normal person behavior...
