'The police are supposed to be the good guys,' - Cop assaults a man who had committed no crimes... and then charged him with assault. submitted by NotAnUndercoverCop to BadCopNoDonut

If the guy would have just let the cop beat him to death he wouldn't have gotten arrested for assault.

A mass sterilization exercise: Kenyan doctors find anti-fertility agent in UN tetanus vaccine submitted by Ex-Redditor to Worldnews

definitelynotabot 1 points 16 points (+17|-1) ago

The bishops called for more tests to be done on the vaccine.
"The ministry must stop making noise and allow the Church to sample the vaccines before they are given," Dr Stephen Karanja, the chair of the Catholic Doctors Association in Kenya, told the BBC.
He said tetanus vaccines tested earlier in the year contained an antigen - an agent that triggers antibody production by the body's immune system - which could cause sterility in women.

So the doctors had samples of the vaccine tested earlier in the year and it contained an antigen that "could" cause sterility in women. Maybe we should test a new batch of vaccines.

But Mr Macharia said the vaccine had been approved by the World Health Organization and Unicef.
"I would recommend my own daughter and wife to take it because I entirely 100% agree with it and have confidence it has no adverse health effects," Mr Macharia said.

Oh,nevermind. The government's health minister said its perfectly fine...because the World Health Organization and UNICEF said its fine. No need for testing now, authorities have said its safe.

I've seen a lot about liquid thorium reactors. I'm no Nuclear Engineer, but it seems like a pretty decent technology and I haven't been able to figure out why we're not putting more effort into it other than people are afraid of the word "nuclear".

Also, the idea of off grid solutions sounds a lot better to me than keeping with the grid model. It requires a lot of resources to build a grid, keep it maintained and plan for upgrades as usage increases. Not to mention when natural disasters happen and people can be out for weeks or months. Or even if its just a particularly hot day and one overload triggered outage causes a domino effect across large sections of a continent. The goal should be with clean power generation and storage at the home or near the home. Most commercial buildings have backup generators, and its becoming popular with homeowners. With solar panels, natural gas (or propane) backup generator, small wind turbines and Tesla's Powerwall you could say bye bye to the grid. Or at least, work with much smaller and easier to manage neighborhood or block level grids.
