I think the answer some people are giving is a bit misleading. While the answer "they don't prioritize it enough" may be true, I suspect the true reason why is that they (local cops) are going to have to not only be efficient enough to interpret and sort this information in real time, but also get it to pass off as actual evidence in a criminal case. Or even probable cause for potentially dangerous arrest. There's nothing private about that second part, when they acknowledge the capability is there, people will notice.

Even if this sluggish government organization (average copper) is coordinated and efficient enough to make such great use of those tools, why on a simple car theft? And then they are going to advertise that they are doing this to the courts? Can of worms. There's no reason for them to keep these tools safely in the realm of "extra legal" while they figure out how to properly wield it, maybe someday they will put themselves into a position where they will have to acknowledge and justify it, but why would they want to do that anytime soon?

My uneducated two cents, at least.

I'm at a loss. I'm still nowhere close to having the karma to be able to give even a single downvoat, so I guess we just have to let this stuff happen without opposition.

I really hope this system of having a required amount of contribution points doesn't turn into "I'm a new account, so I need to karma whore for a couple weeks, and if that doesn't work I'll never log on again". That could be lead to painful eternal September.

How many of us have access to a Friendly Local Game Store (FLGS)? If you have one nearby, what keeps you coming back rather than buying online? Or do you mix and match when you purchase games? submitted by xiaotianchun to boardgames

There a few things I think a FLGS has over an online source:

  • Immediate gratification - no waiting for shippment
  • Knowledgable staff with educated suggestions
  • Open gaming nights - A venue to play games with others, and experience new games you might not otherwise get to ever play
  • My store has a 50% off table for stuff that isn't selling well and they want to get rid of

The price you pay for these benefits is that your general game is more pricey than basically ANY online place.

For me personally, I have such a huge collection at this point that the only times I am looking to buy a game is if there's some sort of crazy deal on it, otherwise I generally can't justify the purchase. The staff at my local game store is pretty garbage, they (like most profitable game stores) have MTG as their primary source of business and you can really tell. I've never been able to mention a board game and have them know what I'm asking about, even if it's a really hyped game. The only time they've suggested anything for me, they just said "I don't know" to any follow up questions. Like, they knew to try to sell something, but weren't familiar with any of their product. In addition to this, the general sticker price hovers around 140-150% the amazon price. They are the only game in town, and have a good amount of turnout for their gaming nights, but I don't take advantage since I have multiple gaming groups already.

As a result, I occasionally like to check in at the FLGS, but 100% of the time I just sort of scan the place and go straight to the discount rack. 90% of the time the stuff on the rack is just barely under a CSI or amazon price, but occasionally you'll see a gem. Ultimately, I'd love to throw my money at a FLGS rather than the amazon mega-corp, but honestly, the big game store in my town cornered the market without being any good, and charges too much. If the prices were fairer, and the staff didn't flaunt how little they care about non-MTG customers, I'd be all about it.

Yea, this is pretty unforgivable. Is there any sort of curator or anything that can be contacted? I have to believe if they realized how out-of-order this is, they would correct it, right?

Yea, it's not only more easy on the eyes, but in my opinion it also helps differentiate from reddit. The light theme looks alright, but it looks more like a clear reddit clone, warts and all.

I'd love it if they were labelled. Some of those look really nice, but I don't know what games they are.
