How No Man's Sky Infinite Universe Actually Works (xpost /v/nomanssky) submitted by whatthedrunk to gaming

He just explained procedural generation. I really want to like this game but every single demo shows a very, very similar planet with differently skinned creatures.

Star Trek Online is a good example of procedural generation not succeeding. They had a system where you could go "explore" to find random aliens giving random missions on random planets. It was very boring, since you just got variations on a theme. ProcGen is not an excuse for content, it's just a place to put your content.

Is Windows 8.1 a requirement? It specifically states 8.1, but I'm on 8.

Do people still play Ultima Online? submitted by SB1001 to gaming

Seems people do play it. RPS recently had an article on the matter.

I can see why you'd keep coming to a game that's so diverse and has player housing and so on. It's really quite amazing.

מבחינתי שהסאב יהיה בקלינגון, רק שלא יהיה רק שיהיה סאב מקומי, של מקומיים, ולא אוסף של כתבות בהן ישראל מוזכרת איכשהו...

I'll give it a try. It's been very stubborn so far and I'm stuck with 14.4

Quick comment: I'm gonna give it all to you. Please don't be offended - we're trying to make this better and you're going to want to hear what people have to say. You don't have to agree.

Go back and ask yourself what this design is about, because I for one have no idea. This is something you should keep in the back of your mind - I want to know or "feel" what you're trying to tell me, and right now it's confusing. Somewhere between medicine and an invitation to an exhibition about the history of the Swiss international school of design.

I would also reconsider the grid. You define an axis, and then you break it. You disturb the flow. See for instance "Imagine a better world" and the whole article there, and then right away after that I'm met with a border that takes up all my attention and spans the full width of the grid (I think?). After that, the next section strongly defines the border between the first and second column, but somehow I'm still hung up on the left border of the first?

And now we're getting to the more "commercial" side. You really wanna give me an "image". Something to make me want to scroll at least. I'm not talking about the fold so much, but I want something to draw me into the website, which is currently missing. A blurry photograph with vague text doesn't do it for me or anyone probably (unless I suspected it might be about art, where this style is established).
