Should children be taught and allowed to shoot a gun? submitted by IDONTHAVEANYGOATS to AskVoat

bulksalty 5 points 86 points (+91|-5) ago

Yes of course.

Kids should absolutely be taught safe firearm handling (including how to safely store firearms), they're ready as soon as they can follow directions, and as long as they're learning that one might as well teach them the fun of shooting sports.

Rule one to introducing someone to live shooting (or even shooting a new caliber) is only load a single round (after they've learned the 4 laws of safe handling).

shouldnt Girl BIkes be Boys BIkes? submitted by TheKinglyWe to AskVoat

The man's style is a stronger design, or can be made lighter if they have equal strength.

The woman's design adds weight/gives up strength to facilitate modesty while the rider is wearing a skirt (a high bar means the skirt would need to ride quite a way up the thigh).

Do you support Affirmative Action? submitted by ChillyHellion to AskVoat

No, because it's quite unfair to people of the privileged race who come from an unprivileged class.

Police mobilize nationally over an officer disrespected at a drive through. Why can't they mobilize nationally against grenades in baby cribs, shooting people in the back, and murdering beloved pets? submitted by VictorOscarAlphaTang to politics

I meant more like hiring a security guard or off duty policeman. Fast food restaurants are open late and aren't always in good neighborhoods.

"Republicans in Richmond have gerrymandered Virginia so thoroughly that they control two-thirds of the 100 seats in the House of Delegates even though the state is as purple as they come." submitted by cynoclast to politics

You can't gerrymander from a minority position (presidential contests aren't state legislature contests), a better way is to look how much the legislature differs from the popular vote. Maryland is a good example with a senate that's made up of 33 D to 14 R (70% Democratic) but votes in all the senate elections were 630k to 566k (52.6% Democratic).

Gerrymandering matters, but it matters in all states (and that the Democratic party is talking about it shows how badly they've done recently at the state level).
