That's probably around $100M in wages, taxes, and employee related expenditures staying in the US. Per year.

An entity with a monopoly on force will always attract those most willing to initiate violence/theft against others. That problem is systemic to the state, and it's growth cannot be prevented, only slowed by vigilant citizens.

Repeal of Glass-Steagall Caused the Financial Crisis of 2008 submitted by fcsuper to news

Yep, this is spot on. We consume more than we produce, financed by increasing amounts of debt. That debt caught up with us in 2008, as it will again in the near future.

Amazon deforestation increases 16% in 2015. submitted by macredsmile to Worldnews

bluebarracuda 1 points -1 points (+0|-1) ago

From the article

The area of deforestation grew to 2,251 square miles (5,830 square kilometers) between July 2014 and August 2015, the environment ministry said.

From the Amazon rainforest Wikipedia entry

This basin encompasses 7,000,000 square kilometres (2,700,000 sq mi), of which 5,500,000 square kilometres (2,100,000 sq mi) are covered by the rainforest.

The total deforested area amounts to a bit over one-tenth of one percent (0.107%) of the entire rainforest. If total deforestation were to double next year (i.e. undergo a 100% increase), the total deforested area would still only amount to 0.214%. I'm all for responsible use and preservation of resources, but it seems like the deforestation issue is often overblown, especially when it's tied to global warming and climate change, as it is in this article.
