This is a pretty common thing I'm hearing lately. So let me address it bluntly: We will not tolerate that kind of conduct on our network, and we have safeguards in place to protect your identifiable information (IP address). When you connect to our servers, only a handful of IRCops (network admins) can see your actual IP address, but normal users see a "masked" version. Additionally, you can request a vHost (a mask) to completely get rid of the rest of the information. On a personal note, my profession is within Computer Security, and I regularly ensure things are to my standards (the IRCops can verify, I can be a little demanding at times).

IRC networks have been tarnished by a select few, but using a network such as Freenode as an example, has helped very large active communities be able to communicate extremely quick, and offers a level of support for their projects you just can't get through any other means.

As with any service, you should be careful what you click on, or what information you give out. There are bad people out there, but we strive to make our network safe for everyone as we can.

Except many mobile networks use NAT. And businesses. And Universities... All the places we want people to contribute from.

I understand the initial idea, but there needs to be a different way to restrict this. And I know its a work around to use a VPN at this point, but no one should have to install plugins to be able to voat. And, I would venture to guess those VPN services use NAT as well, so it really doesn't help the situation much.

Running the VMWare appliance? If so, watch out for this disk space eating bug mentioned in article submitted by mst3k to sysadmin

From the KB, this is after upgrading to the 5.5U2 vCenter Appliance, no other appliances are listed in this KB. There is no current fix.
