I think the problem with this author is that he denies himself a voice. He already believes that the contribution of others is more valuable or necessary than his. He doesn't want to create his own narrative, but he does not want to hijack someone else's. He is ashamed of who he is and he needs to seek permission to write, he needs someone else to tell him what to write about.

He needs to be happy and even proud of who he is to be able to contribute something meaningful. That has to come from him, not from someone else.
