I'll be working on an Android app for a weekend project this weekend. The API leaves a bit to be desired at the moment, but it looks like I can create a native wrapper around the site and use native widgets for stuff like logging in. I think it'll work well.

Yes, of course! I'll even have transparent notification and navigation bar support on devices that support it (I'm surprised at the number of apps that don't support this...it's like 5 lines of code, most of which are just XML, and super easy to implement). At least where possible....

Yet their rules state don't "[do] anything that interferes with normal use of Reddit". Of course, the rules don't apply to SRS though.

Unfortunately, hosting in many of those countries just isn't possible for any site that plans to receive a lot of traffic. The infrastructure just isn't there. It could work, but expect Voat to be pretty slow.

There are militant "Christian" groups doing just this in Africa. They don't really pose a threat to us here so it's not talked about much, but it is actually happening. Any religion can be twisted in to something horrible by sick evil people.
