Why can't you detect your own eye movement when looking in the mirror, but can when looking at yourself on let's say a phone screen (camera on in real time)? submitted by Ellvarah to ELI5

This is because your eye in the mirror is capturing the view, whereas the camera on the phone is capturing the view. So on the phone your eye is looking at the screen, the camera is capturing the eye movement. Does that make sense?
