Same. I've worked with some of these before. They have zero understanding of the concepts and basic data structures. I don't mean they can't write their own hashmap. I mean some do not know what a map is. Never heard of it. What they can write is a tangled mess of undocumented spaghetti code, with no thought to the overall design. Just write it as you go and hack things together until it compiles and passes the most basic test you can think of.

I can assure you that eventually, something (a lot actually) does happen. You may have to slog through a couple more boring books to get there though. Towards the end, some of the myriad of plot threads get pruned or just abandoned, but nothing that anyone cared about. All of the important or interesting stuff gets wrapped-up very nicely.

I agree with that suggestion. These are the books other great authors praise, but are not widely read. They are really unlike any series I have ever read. Abandon any idea of predicting where the plot is going. When you get to the end, wait a bit, and when you are ready, re-read them. A lot of things scattered throughout the books take on new meaning from that perspective.

I'd suggest the audiobooks then (especially if you've got a commute or anything like that), to refresh, if you have any interest in completing the series. Kate Reading and Michael Kramer do an excellent reading.
