Uber says let's debate. New York City mayor says forget about it. submitted by toatsmavoats to news

I have been living in New York for 6/7 years now. Just long enough to see Bloomberg's final years push, and deBlasio coming in. What is funny is that he was elected to be a mayor "for the people". He lived in Brooklyn, he was just a millionaire rather than a billionaire, and he would favor individuals over corporations every time.

This just makes me laugh. And pack. I'm laughing while I am packing my bags. He is going against his core supporters (I didn't vote for him, mind you), he is taking corporate money/bribes, and since he took office, crime has steadily gone up and is not stopping.

Holy shit those are some of the most ignorant comments I have ever seen. I can't even tell if they're all trolling or not.

Tax havens for the Super-rich are 'hiding' at least $21 Trillion [x-post from:/v/greed] submitted by NotAnUndercoverCop to news

I don't think you have a clear grasp on how taxes work, at least in the US. according to this, the top 1% pay 23.39% of their total income to the federal government while the national average tax rate is less than HALF that. The top 5% earners collectively pay a little over 20% of EVERY dollar they earn, while the bottom 50% pay an average of 2.37% of their total income. The "super-wealthy" pay 10x the rate of HALF of the rate that everyone else pays. Here is the breakdown, using data from the IRS. So, in your mind, what is fair exactly??

And, according to CNN, the top 1% is actually averaging 19% of their adjusted gross. Adjusted being the total income less the deductions they take. By those figures, the top 1% collectively paid 35% of the ENTIRE tax revenue, at a federal level. In 2014, that number increased to almost 50%! What is a fair number??

If you want to talk fair, then the bottom 99% needs to step it up. Hell, I make under 50k and I only paid 13% after my deductions, and I am a shitty tax accountant. I am so sick of this "fair share" BS.

If they are collectively hiding $21 trillion and STILL paying over 23% of their income, who is really to blame?

I am all for straightening out the tax code and getting rid of the loopholes, but lets face it - people take them because they are able to. I deduct my interest payments because I can. Does that make me an animal? I would happily take a larger deduction, if I could, and you know you would too.
