All Women Are Replaceable submitted by deleted to CriticalThinking

I feel there is a fundamental lack of empathy toward his wife and all women in the article. He is very dismissive of her requests for help during the newborn period. Now we don't know what really happened but if he were in her place would he not want help? Or would he be content because she was providing for him.

Now human relationships are more complicated than this article or my comment can encompass but I think if you can understand a personal situation then you can help change the problem. I will use his example.

Here is a relationship where the woman stops having sex with the man. Had he ever asked her why she stopped wanting to have sex? It seems his line of thinking was "I am doing my part, providing income, and she needs to do her part, providing sex." Did she think that was a resonable exchange? Is that what they had agreed upon before the became married?

Take a third person view of their relationship. He is frustrated because he cannot have sex with her because she no longer "desires" him. She is frustrated because she is overwhelmed with the responsibilities of raising a child and feels he is not puting any effort into the relationship. He thinks money is all the effort he needs to put in to the relationship, she thinks emotional support is all he needs to put in to the relationship. He thinks her job is to have sex with him, she thinks her job is to raise the child. Everyone is angry but there is no comunication.

It is a sterotypical female reaction that she is angry and when asked she says nothing is wrong. Well he was unhappy and how does he fix the marriage play videogames and watch porn. He is retreating into a shell of resentment. Then after a while it comes to a head and he tells her she is replaceable.

This doesn't assume they were compatable. In fact they probably were not but they fell into societal gender norms where he is the provider and she has children when neither one wanted that. He wants a woman who wants to have sex with him but in society a woman like that is a whore and not considered proper to marry. She wants a man who is stoic because a man who talks about his feelings is a pussy but he wont share his feelings she is upset.

What it comes down to is gender roles harm our relationships because they put us into rigid roles that probably no one wants. The solutions is not to adhere strongly to them and become alpha it is to break them and have proper communication with your partner.
