Voaters who have been married 15+ years, what is one piece of advice you can give to those just starting out that you feel has been the biggest key to making your marriage last? submitted by Honeylemon to AskVoat

RavenStencil 1 points 32 points (+33|-1) ago

We've been together for nearly 10 years.

Best piece of advice - be polite. Remembering the "please" and "thanks yous" can make a rough day a little easier.

Second best piece of advice - ALWAYS sit down to discuss serious topics. That keeps you on even ground and eye to eye. Guys - Remember that when you stand in front of a woman who is smaller than you and you raise your voice (even a little) you are intimidating even if you don't mean to be. This kicks in her fight or flight instinct and makes finding common ground and compromise much more difficult.

Have you ever been treated like crap by an employee of a company because they felt you didn't belong? What happened? submitted by Dumbtickles to askgoat

I had saved for over a year to buy a Harley. I walked into the store and looked at several bikes and finally decided that a $12,500 Sportster was exactly what I wanted. The sales guy approached and we spoke for a couple minutes about some of the features of the bike. I asked him "If I paid cash could I get any discount?" He looked me up and down and said "Nope." and walked away.

I left and bought a Honda VTX 2 days later.

Fuck Harley Davidson Dealerships!

Most guys don't even consider it. We stand in the doorway and raise our voice without realizing that we are now trapping them in the room AND intimidating them when all we wanted to do was discuss a serious topic.

If you can't win a debate while sitting down your argument wasn't very strong to begin with.

[CMV] The Confederate battle flag is not a symbol of oppression and should not be banned. submitted by MommaSpitfire to ChangeMyView

RavenStencil 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

You are not wrong about the early history of that flag, but like the symbol of the nazi party the swastika originated as a symbol for peace which was then adopted by a hate group. Here in the US we don't ban the swastika because it is an expression of free speech. Just as we won't ban the confederate flag even though it has been adopted as a symbol of white supremacy hate groups.

Just as Hindus moved away from the use of the swastika symbol Americans should move away from the use of the confederate flag.

When the KKK is embracing your symbol maybe it's time for you to stop flying it - assuming you don't agree with the ideals of the Ku Klux Klan.

Was the industrial revolution primarily only helpful to the wealthy or is it truly responsible for creating our middle class system in the US?
