I think it's clear that there are groups of people here intentionally being fools in order to negatively affect Voat's reputation. Personally I think it's sad and a waste of time--but then again, so many true Voat users are giving these trolls attention that it may not be a waste of time after all.

We need to collectively acknowledge that it may be very likely that trolls are attempting to sabotage Voat. We need to react maturely; if site policies or laws are being broken, ban the damn trolls. Otherwise, we the community should downvoat their folly and move on. If those trolls have also secured positions of power (ie mod positions) we should work on installing a vote-of-no-confidence feature in subverses that--only with overwhelming support--can remove those mods from power.

Of course these are things we have to discuss, but in terms of the ordinary trolls who spew their repulsive behaviour across the subs in the name of slander, I say let's keep downvoating them. See them for what they are.

General Operations & Actions Testimonial (GOAT statement) submitted by PuttItOut to announcements

I definitely think reducing operating costs is a priority, and I know you need help to do that in reasonable time. We have people from /v/Linux actively working to help with that process.

Specific parts Putt has stated a need for volunteers so far:

  • Lawyer
  • Community relations
  • Marketing
  • Sales

Putt, could you go into some more depth sometime soon about the exact work that needs to be done in these categories? And are there any other roles that need to be filled? I think the more specific the stated roles are the more likely people are to reach out.

EDIT: Also, if people stay true to their pledges and if more pledges come in, I'm sure that with reduced monthly costs and more volunteers we can run Voat long-term and smoothly. If you intend to donate monthly and are not on the list I linked to, please contact me so we all have a better understanding of how much we can reasonably hope to bring in each month on our own.

EDIT 2: Also, that title is amazing.

As long as you come legally we have no complaint.

Unless you start raping our citizens, then we'll send you back.

Finally an official reaction to the v/videos situation. @Atko takes credit for ousting @THC submitted by Skyrock to ProtectVoat

PeaceSeeker 10 points -5 points (+5|-10) ago

What kind of foolish remark is that? That's no better than the people who will blindly support Trump now that he's been elected. We still have to hold Trump to his word, make sure he is actually representative of the people.

It's no different for Atko. (EDIT: Yes it is. Atko wasn't elected, he built Voat). We cannot simply ignore any repugnant (EDIT: over-the-top adjective) action simply because Atko performed it. This is UNACCEPTABLE (EDIT: actually it was justifiable; the sub was Atko's. The fact that he was an admin just put things into a more concerning context at the time) and we must make our voices heard.

EDIT: Though I was disappointed with the way this specific drama was handled, I regret my phrasing and tone in virtually every comment to do with this situation. I was accusatory, reactionary, and hostile — none of which are appropriate or productive emotions. I apologize to Atko for my role in this drama.

If that is how the admins are going to act then I will immediately stop sending them money every month, or participating in a single fucking donation drive from this moment forward. (EDIT: These are probably the words of mine that I regret the most. They were not meant to be threats but a statement that, while Atko was justified, if some kind of "proper procedure" is not followed by admins even during justified actions, people might stop supporting Voat). I'm not disputing what Atko is or is not justified to do. What I take issue with is the fact that the only reason I and many other people are here is because Voat is not a totalitarian freedom-hating censorship-loving "I'm an admin and I do what I want' kind of website. (EDIT: sigh. This wasn't what this fiasco was about at all). If this is no longer true I will leave and take my money, content, and contributions elsewhere. (EDIT: same thing; over-the-top way of saying that actions have consequences and staying true to Voat's principles is important. However, blind as I was to this truth at the time, Atko's actions were not in violation of Voat's principles).

User THC is a dumbass for using his mod power to push his agenda on a default sub. Good riddance you reddit tier POS. submitted by urafuckingidiot to whatever

That's not a fucking brigade. I downvoted him there; his action is over-reaching (EDIT: not over-reaching, just arguably disagreeable) and should not have been carried out without some transparency or communication with the community.
