It has been a while since I have shaken my fists with glee.

All you lame bandwagoners are missing the point. NPC is about a legit psychological phenomenon. Not ooga booga me good them bad. submitted by big_fat_dangus to whatever

As much as I love seeing quality memes take off like this, I agree that the original essence of the NPC meme (which is many years old) is somewhat lacking in most of the representations.

I don't think the origin even involves redditors at all. The NPC meme originated as an idea that this world is similar to an RPG, in that there are a finite number of playable characters (i.e. real people), and the rest are non-playable computer programs. It is a metaphor for the soul, the psyche, and its central claim is that not all people on Earth can be accurately described as having souls -- in fact, most of them cannot.

This meme isn't just about a hivemind, and it certainly isn't about "alt-right vs normies". It is about the fact that equality does not exist, that different "tiers" of Man exist, and that obviously most are not in the upper tiers. Most people cannot think critically. Most people are, for all intents and purposes, entirely controlled by external forces -- it is as if they have no nature at all, and therefore they have no soul. This is equivalent to saying they are just machines running programs -- therefore, NPCs.

I'm not a lawyer, but I strongly suspect the assumption would be made that he does not know your identity, since identities are disguised by usernames by default here.
