How Helicoptered Kids Become Hypersensitive College Students submitted by Charlie_Prime to politics

And it’s not that I blame us parents! I blame a society that keeps telling us, through products and programs and even laws, that our kids are in constant danger, so we must make things safer, safer, safer. For God’s sake, I got a press release last week from the Environmental Working Group asking restaurants to pledge to give kids only “asbestos-free” crayons—as if the tiny exposure to the tiny amount of asbestos in a crayon while waiting for chicken fingers is going to scar their lungs for a lifetime.

I blame the parents for kowtowing to this notion of constant danger instead of seeking out the facts. I refuse to succumb to this paranoia about my kid being in constant danger from... existing, basically. I refuse to raise a wimp or a helpless whiner who expects Mommy to fix every minor problem. Nor will I allow anyone to tell me I'm doing something wrong because I didn't put baby knee pads on him or because I don't slather him in antibiotic gel or because when he complained that a kid in his kindergarten class was bothering him, I taught him to stick up for himself (with words) and escalate to the teacher himself later if necessary, rather than run straight to the teacher myself and demand that the "bully" be transferred to another class or whatever.

I'm a tail-end Gen X parent of a 5-year-old, though. I was raised "free range." (Although we just called it "childhood" back then.) Most parents of the kids in my son's class are younger than me, and I suspect, helicopter parents.

What has Voat become? submitted by HASTAG_GAY_PORN to AskVoat

But this creates a Catch-22 and also is part of the reason Voat appears to be so hate-filled. If you (and I, and the other guy, and everyone else here who's thinking the same thing) self-censor and lurk out of fear, how are the other lurkers out there going to know that there are in fact people on Voat who have another view of the subject? Who are they going to upvoat? Who's going to encourage them to delurk so we can upvoat them? I'll admit, I've written comments and then hesitated to post them, too, but I've been thinking recently that I need to stop doing that.

This is BRILLIANT. Now I almost hope that I get a letter like this from my kid's school one day just so I can use this idea. Then if the school whines about that, too, I can say "DON'T YOU SUPPORT THE TROOPS, YOU TRAITOR?!" Haha!

Huh. Not sure why the OP felt the need to sensationalize the title. Oh, wait, this is /v/news.

Terrible story, though. Sad.

Flibanserin, 'female Viagra,' distracts from real causes of low libido: critics submitted by i_am_not_crazy to news

This from the guy wailing "woe is me" about how women's sexual dysfunction is supposedly the man's fault, even though I said no such thing and neither did the article. Seems like you're just hung up on this notion.

At least I got a Python gif out of it, thanks! But you realize this means I'll never get any work done today, because I have to go and compulsively recite every line from the movie now!
