Why have I heard that male victims of spousal abuse are arrested instead of their wives? submitted by PM-me-about-Autism to askgoat

Because that's what happens. If they police are called to a domestic abuse, somebody is going to jail. Historically it was assumed that men were the only ones guilty of domestic abuse because, ya know, a measly woman could never hurt a manly man (obviously that's not the case). It just hasn't changed since then. It's similar to how the woman usually will get the kids in a divorce (starting to change recently).

On a lighter note, why hasn't this been used as a defense for the "patriarchy" bullshit? Surely the woman would go to jail if they were truly so oppressed??

If you have a smartphone or tablet, check out "Duolingo". It's free, and awesome.

I started learning German with it for something to do while on the train to work. Although, napping is often more enticing...

The link you posted says otherwise?

30,057 fatal car accidents in total in 2013 which is as recent as your data gets. This article says that there have been 19,000 this year so far - in 6 months - and that it is on track to exceed 40,000.

No, you're right. It's not a lot when comparing to total deaths. But one would assume that this number should be going down with the increased safety measures that are in today's cars.

And if you compare that to 130,557 - the total number of accidental deaths in 2013 - it's pretty significant. The US is on track to have 40,000 fatal car accidents this year, making up ~30% of that number assuming that the number of accidental deaths hasn't increased a huge amount in the last two years.

I don't understand your hostility... I can clearly see the ".gov" at the end, thanks. I didn't mean it was "your" data, you knew that.

Regardless, fatal car accidents are not "way down", and there is no evidence to suggest otherwise?
