Police kill more whites than blacks, yet black deaths generate more outrage. Analysis contradicts widespread views about racial targets submitted by TerriChris to news

So 50% of cop kills are white, 30% are black... That would be a pretty compelling argument if it weren't for the fact that 78% of the population is white and only 13% are black.

What are ways that we can suggest to monetize Voat, that would be acceptable to the greatest number of users, so that Voat can continue to exist in the most user friendly way possible? submitted by boardmonkey to AskVoat

This could be a terrible idea - but what about leaving ad decisions up to subverses mods? Let them organize what ads are available and where/how they are displayed and then give them a percent of revenue. Then A) mods make some money, B) Mods have incentive to keep up the quality of their subverses, C) Choices are made by people who best know their subscribers, and D) Advertisers pick which subs and what content they support. If every subverses is it's own ecosystem then Advertisers would be less likely to complain about what is happening elsewhere on the site.

Why is Modern Art so Bad? submitted by TheodoreKent to videos

MrMongoose 3 points 31 points (+34|-3) ago

I really think modern art is just more about imagination and creativity and less about realism. Anyone with a phone and a printer can reproduce a scene in perfect detail nowadays. Of course there are plenty of bad artists producing bad art today - there always have been. But you can't hold up the bad artists of today next to the greats of the past and claim that as evidence that art is moving in the wrong direction.

Transparent table caused an accidental flashing on live submitted by kun to funny

Pretty sure this is either fake or an illusion. Notice how her left arm goes behind her 'leg' in the reflection. Not to mention the fact that it would make no sense for her to be walking around the set with no pants on.

Ben Carson: "I don't believe in evolution..I don't have enough faith to believe that something as complex as our ability to rationalize and have a moral sense of what's right and wrong, just appeared" submitted by nalo to politics

He didn't say every Republican feels that way - just that it is necessary to be the Republican nominee. I don't know if that is true or not (it feels true to me, but I can't remember the actual stance previous nominees have had, so that could be my own bias), however your individual views don't automatically disprove that statement either.

He definitely knows more than I do about surgery. The plumber knows more than me about plumbing. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the evolutionary biologists know more than all of us about evolution. So maybe Ben should just defer to them.
