Voat vs Pao submitted by HypnoVoat to gifs

Loreguy 0 points 45 points (+45|-0) ago

While I see your point I hope Voat doesn't end up defining itself by being anti-Pao or anti-Reddit. I hope after this all blows over we'll have a Voat that is defined by Voat and it's users.

One of the reasons why Reddit became popular was that it wasn't Digg v2 , but rather it was Reddit v1 and it was better than Digg. Voat, if it wants to become popular and survive through this migration period and keep the users it's gaining needs to be separate from Reddit, and we can't do that if we keep posting things like this.

Good post, upvoated, but just my grain of thought.

Would Voat love to have Victoria as mod? submitted by roznak to AskVoat

People have to stop trying to compare this site to Reddit (not going to happen, I know). For Voat to succeed it has to become independent of Reddit, it has to form it's new image and its base community. When Reddit started it was a group of programmers, geeks, and generally tech savvy people. That was their image and they built upon it. If Voat's initial image is Reddit 2.0 I don't know how much growth or individuation it'll achieve. It might become 9gag 2.0, or Buzzfeed 2.0 if we're not careful.

The ideal thing to do would be to not even mention Reddit, or Pao, or Victoria so that Voat users and by extension Voat can come up with their/its own identity.

Voat should have a reddit importer tool submitted by TheAlmightyZach to Voat

I honestly believe it is in Voat's best interest to ignore Reddit and to form it's new identity. If it doesn't it'll become stale and die, you can't make Reddit 2.0 because there's already a bunch of those (Buzzfeed, 9gag, iFunny). We need to keep the two sites as separate from each other until Voat becomes it's own beast.

Good idea, but I don't think it's in Voat's best interests to actually do this.

Why is the character limit for new subverses 20 characters? submitted by Loreguy to Voat

Sure!

I would consider an acronym but the subverse is a port from Reddit. /r/bannedfromclubpenguin . I understand there's a lot of pressure right now, but hopefully they change it in the future. As you see my title is just one character shy of being acceptable, which is a damn shame.
