To play devil's advocate, the founding fathers did understand that it actually would eventually become obsolete (or at least parts of it would at different times), so it's not so blasphemous to point out if a part of the constitution is irrelevant. That is what the whole amendment thing is all about. The constitution is not a perfect holy document.

I was born and raised in Boston, the epicenter of that yankee attitude, then moved to Florida some eight years ago. I was floored by how awesome people acted down here, I loved that I could find myself in a conversation with every barista or grocery bagger I came across.

Now that the honeymoon phase of that is over, I do have a few observations (read: opinions); People in the south are polite TO YOUR FACE. It's mostly a big mask. The level of passive aggressiveness and blatant racism is disturbing. People from up north can come off as assholes, absolutely, but that's because they've sacrificed tact for brutal honesty and efficiency. Up north, things just seem to get done faster. Not saying it's better or worse, it's just different. No one has the time to chat about your day when there's a line of people halfway out the door, covered in snow. Also, up north, when someone doesn't like you, they tend to inform you one way or another in a way that brooks no doubt. Also, up north, racism and bigotry was rare enough to surprise me when I encountered it, and those people tended to not be very... er, socially average. Down here though, I've had restaurant managers outright declare pity for the poor waitress that had to wait on the black family that just walked in the door. Sure, he put on that mask of southern hospitality when he sat them, but the racism was right there for the rest of us to see.

That nothern, in your face, tell it like it is kind of attitude lent itself to the thing that I DESPISED about culture up there; fights. Everyone fought. Every single party I went to, any social gathering at all, ended up with at least two people getting into fist fights. I hated it. Down here, it's a rare occurrence and usually broken up right away. Up north, it's a huge social stigma if you don't like to/don't want to fight. You're looked at as lesser. Down here I don't get that.

Israel wrecked my home. Now it wants my land. submitted by COUSCOUS to Worldnews

The money we give to Palestine is humanitarian aid. The money we give to Israel, which is significantly more, is military aid, and we constantly raise that number. Look at the progression of Palestinian territory since 1946... it's a joke. It's a minuscule percentage of what it once was. There won't be any reasonable land swap because Israel is not reasonable on this subject (neither the government nor the citizens, culturally). The Palestinians, on the other hand, have been living in abject poverty under the shadow of a country that hates them. There's a direct correlation between how oppressed a country's people are by an outside force and the ease by which extremist ideologies recruit.

So the cycle goes; extremists hide among innocent civilians in Palestine, do something stupid against Israel. Israel then retaliates in a way that harms all of Palestine (in fact MOSTLY the innocent civilians) and occupy territory, territory that Israeli citizens then start building settlements in. Palestine doesn't even have full social recognition as an autonomous state, let alone any kind of authority to appeal for military intervention, so Israel does what they want with the toys we gave them the money to buy. This of course angers many, many young impressionable Palestinians, who are easily recruited by the extremists, who then go and do something stupid against Israel. Repeat, ad infinitum.

And honestly, what options do the Palestinians have? They have no leverage to negotiate, especially so long as Israel has our never-ending financial support. They could remain peaceful and docile for the next 10 years, Israel would still hate them, and never relinquish an inch. The only possible outcome, love it or hate it, is the complete absorption or destruction of the state of Palestine.
