Chiefs of some of the nation’s biggest police departments say officers in American cities have pulled back and have stopped policing as aggressively as they used to, fearing that they could be the next person in a uniform featured on a career-ending viral video.
That's not the "YouTube effect." That's positive change in police behavior due to being fucking caught.

This is a legally dangerous strategy, and given time is the exact cause of death for github.
Now that they've gone on record as having policed one piece of software on their entire network, they can't claim technical immunity when a legally-damaging piece of software is found on their servers. When, for instance, github is found to have hosted code for a P2P network for sharing terrorist manuals, this notice will be "Exhibit A" in the criminal conspiracy case they'll be defending themselves from.
It's not only more reasonable, but far safer to maintain an ignorant approach to user data. You can either claim that the user posting the material is responsible for its content, or you can claim that you're responsible for the content, but if you claim that you're responsible, then buddy you're responsible.
Truly epic dumb move by github.

This is a really bold gamble. The new buyer of AB/ABP are basically betting that they can spend $x million now buying the userbase, let ads through at a premium, and make $y million before everyone savvies up and switches to a different blocker such as uBlock Origin.
Our job right now is to ensure that the gamble loses money. We should be uninstalling AB/ABP en masse, and putting calls out to people we've helped install AB/ABP for over the years. More importantly than our not seeing ads is the killing of this gamble. The people involved need to lose money, loudly, to deter future iterations of this behavior.

Voat needs to be run like Survivor. Once a week the population should be allowed to vote and the winner gets kicked the fuck off the site and his/her content erased.

Dear gun control people, here is our shared target. The moment this guy can't possibly get a gun we can start to talk about the rest of them.
Thoughts? I like a trillion dollar federal buyback program personally.

I do believe I'd vote for someone different next time around. Nobody wants those animals around.
