New York Times Reddit Piece Shows Dangers of Internet Journalism submitted by derram to technology

I was actually a little surprised when I saw that article. It's the fucking New York Times, not gawker or buzzfeed. I thought they were supposed to hold their reporters to higher standards.

Can we stop trying to preemptively ban subverses? submitted by anders to AskVoat

I haven't seen any illegal content (then again I don't go looking for it), I've seen no indication of illegal content, I just see constant ridiculous accusations and theoretical arguments. For everyone who's new here, take a look at the Voat user agreement.

https://voat.co/help/useragreement

Here are the rules from that agreement:

"These guidelines are intended to keep people safe, protect kids, keep voat running, and to encourage personal responsibility for what you do on voat. You must: Keep Everyone Safe: You agree to not intentionally jeopardize the health and safety of others or yourself. Keep Personal Information Off voat: You agree to not post anyone's sensitive personal information that relates to that person's real world or online identity. Do Not Incite Harm: You agree not to encourage harm against people. Protect Kids: You agree not to post any child pornography or sexually suggestive content involving minors. Take Personal Responsibility: As you use voat, please remember that your speech may have consequences and could lead to criminal and civil liability.

Subverses may create their own rules and enforce them as they see fit, providing they do not violate the terms of this agreement. You agree that voat is not responsible for the actions taken or not taken by moderators."

So, nothing considered illegal in Sweden (mentioned elsewhere), no doxxing, no threatening or encouraging harm against people, no child pornography, no "sexually suggestive content involving minors." Don't do any of the above, and like OP said, if you see any of the above, report it.

Can everyone shut the fuck up about this already?

It's really disappointing. It's virtually impossible to find an unbiased news source these days and the Times was (supposed to be) one of the few left. I even remember back in college, it was one of the VERY few news sources we were allowed to cite because they were known for journalistic integrity and unbiased reporting.

It's a shame to see what used to be one of the most respected news sources in the world devolving into nothing more than clickbaiting and whoring to whatever viewpoints are popular at the moment.

Finally decided to give voat a try submitted by James557 to introductions

I tend to comment mostly and contribute the occasional content to whatever sub is related to my interest of the week. I do think I'll be contributing a lot more here though, I'd like to help increase the content and activity. I did already create a subverse, so I'm trying! Thanks for the welcome!

That's exactly what made me finally sign up too. I'm interested in open conversation and you know, maybe some fucking humor without 1500 people having aneurysms over the most mundane and ridiculous nonsense

Mine is just Howard Stern, so it's pretty specific lol. I'll definitely check out yours though
