NSF grants $345,019 To Make Computers With Gender Sensitive Designs submitted by hi5enigma to technology

wew

This is downright ridiculous. Men design computer cases, ergo computers alienate women? That's fucking absurd. I can't think of any way that a black or gray rectangle is alienating women. Do women require brighter colors or less angular designs or some shit? That's reinforcing retarded gender roles and actual computer science degree holders who are women would probably scoff at the idea of a black fucking box being too intimidating to women.

Like, goddamn, I'm no social expert or anything, I'm just some fuck with a laptop, but I would immediately think "Hmm society expects men to work with computers and women to not do that, maybe I should try to rock that boat" instead of "YEAH COMPUTER CASES ARE SEXIST LET'S GET SOME WOMXN TO MAKE EM INSTEAD THIS MAKES SENSE"

The worst part is that taxpayer money is being wasted on this bullshit.

I Feel Like I'm Taking Crazy Pills: Why Is Everyone So Cool With Windows 10's Security Crap? submitted by GearBrain to AskVoat

I realize what I'm getting into by saying this, but can we please consider that people have differing opinions and that some people might just be wrong about the stuff in Windows 10? For the past 2 days I've been sharing a guide on how to disable telemetry on the internet and every time I have to say "Hey guys literally everything you're moaning about can be disabled except Windows Defender (Apparently it can be disabled here), so here's the one thing that requires mms and the registry: http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-disable-telemetry-and-data-collection-in-windows-10/" This is then immediately followed by "SHILL! SHILL! ASTROTURFING! SHILLMAN!"

Like ffs Windows 10 isn't out to finger your asshole. It's got things that can spy on you so advertisers cater to you, but nearly all of it has an off switch and the two things that don't take maybe 2 minutes to manually disable.

I've seen that piece of the privacy policy floating around, and I've concluded that because they mention email and communication specifically, this info is going to the NSA and not advertisers. I've been using Windows since XP, so I've been agreeing to this for over a decade. If someone does have a problem with this, they've probably been using Linux for years. If they're just now discovering this and feel that it's enough to switch to a different OS, then by all means, use Linux. I personally don't have a problem with this and will enjoy Windows 10 anyway.

Wow no shit, I don't have a problem with Microsoft maybe sending files to the government if I have CP or I'm about to aloha snackbar a school or something (which, wow, isn't going to happen), but I somehow do have a problem with handing out my email address and password to some stranger on the internet. Funny how that works.

It's not partially true though. Every privacy issue people have with Windows 10 can be turned off in a menu or manually disabled, save for the clause saying that Microsoft might hand your data over to the government if you're suspected of doing illegal stuff. That is absolutely relevant when talking about how I'm apparently spreading misinformation when I'm not.
