Principal to students about the anthem: 'You are to stand and you are to be quiet' submitted by HereWeGo to news

Supreme Court has already ruled on these matters. School principal does not trump individual belief with flag salute or national anthem. If school principal mandates you stand quietly, then you may sit quietly. If school principal mandate you stand and sing, you may stand and remain quiet. If school principal mandate you stand and hold your hand over your heart and pledge allegiance, you may stand with your hands to your sides and remain quiet.

A private school can dismiss you for not following their rules but they can't make you salute the flag or sing the anthem. But there could be a legal fight and if you are in a private school, your parents have the money to legally fight it.

It would be a slippery slope for a private school to mandate it.

I think the fact they are children being forced by any private organization to salute the flag or recite the national anthem against their will is a huge issue. And children should have understanding of what they are being forced to recite especially an establishment of private or public education.

And if it is not in the rules/regulations/charter of the private education establishment that the parents signed onto that they WILL salute the flag and sing national anthem then the administrator can't force it. And at some age some children may look into it on their own and may make a different decision than the parent. Then maybe the child will take them all to court.
