"Facebook's New Logo Is A Visual Nod To Gender Equality." Before the man stood in front of the woman and now the woman stands in front of the man. TIL female dominance == gender equality. submitted by 18andover to technology

Egalitarianism, as I see it, is basically saying that opportunities should be equal but not necessarily outcomes. Biology being what it is, it's going to be the case that men and women will choose different paths in life for a variety of reasons, and so we should not mistake disparities for discrimination. Even in a perfectly sexism-free world, there will always be many more men becoming slaughterhouse workers and many more women becoming preschool teachers. Men and women have different personalities and cognitive and physical abilities on average and so statistically we will see disparities all over the place.

This is what bothers me about both feminists and MRAs. They both assume that males and females are blank slates at birth and only culture and bias can result in statistical disparities, and thus they think that any observed disparity in outcomes (such as in occupations, incarceration, child custody disputes, etc) can only be explained by sexism.

Australia confiscated 650,000 guns. Murders and suicides plummeted. (I couldn't guess where to post this to avoid massive downvoats) submitted by ancientgoat to CriticalThinking

As is typically true of articles about Australian gun control, this article talks about firearm homicide rates and how they changed after 1997. What people usually fail to point out is that the non-firearm homicide rate increased after they took away the guns. Here's the data, straight from the Australian government, showing that firearm homicides fell (which, of course they did, there are fewer firearms) but non-firearm homicides rose. Do they offset each other? Well, here's a graph from the same source showing that the 1996-97 gun ban didn't do anything for the overall homicide rate, which rose for several years and then continued to decline as it did in the rest of the Western world so far this century.

People on Reddit really don't like it when you provide sources about the dangers of aspartame and the lies of "diet" soda submitted by ElspethTirel to MeanwhileOnReddit

Voat is exactly the same way, just with different ideologies and biases. You really think people on Voat don't just upvote based on the title of an article they never read? Or downvote someone whom they think is a shill/SJW?

There's no group or setting where people won't dismiss ideas they don't agree with.

Redditors are awful and Voaters are awful, just in different ways, because people are awful.

Im a pedophile, youre the monsters. Salon doubles down on Pedophile Defense submitted by DiamondMask to news

Unless you're disapproving of people that disapprove of pedophiles?

Yes, it's acceptable to disapprove of people who harbor hatred towards others for no reason.

I would advise against ever repeating that to anyone in person, and I hope you've gone to great lengths to safeguard your online identity. You're a disgusting and sad individual.

The fact that I would be advised not to say that to anyone in person is exactly the reason why this person authored that Salon article: people like you have a knee-jerk emotional disgust reaction to this, and that's a problem.

Did Obama just apologize to ISIS? Because Trump. submitted by Candygram_for_Mongo to politics

HelmedHorror 7 points -5 points (+2|-7) ago

Really? It's completely believable that the President would apologize for Trump to the most prolific terrorist entity the word has seen in recent decades?

The lack of perspective and a grasp on reality among ideologues like you is staggering.
