Why do you think our government has started to make living off the grid illegal? submitted by Survivorofthemeta to AskVoat

GrumpyMidlifeCrisis 8 points 34 points (+42|-8) ago

I know you all like to think that the government is this big monster that wants to keep people locked into the system and not allow them to free themselves from the reign of the big evil oil companies and make them pay taxes and stuff, but that's not the case. That might be a side effect of their real reasons for preventing people from living off the grid, but it isn't the reason they're doing it.

The reason they do it is because there have been so many laws passed about what makes housing safe for habitation and so many laws passed about what 'rights' people have when living in a house that disconnecting utilities automatically makes a house 'uninhabitable'. Let's look at the flip-side of this theory in order to see if it is accurate or not. Someone doesn't pay their water bill or their utility bill; do the utilities immediately get shut off? No, they don't. In fact, at least where I live, it is very difficult to actually get your electricity turned off. Then, if they do finally cut it off, there are either various programs to get it turned back on or you can be removed from your home because no electricity is considered an unsafe environment.

Why can't you live off the grid in America? Because the government has decided that access to water and electricity is not just akin to a 'human right', but that the safety and welfare of each person depends on having access to water and electricity. Currently, the government and building codes don't recognize alternative methods of supplying water and power to a home.

I don't have any facts to back this up, but I do have 30 years of experience dealing with real estate and generally against government. While it's nice to think that they've got sinister motives, the truth is that they're trying to protect people, to keep people safe, and don't recognize living off-grid as safe. Remember that the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

Hey guys, this was who was in charge of the DEA in the USA & their expert opinion on marijuana submitted by 64tetrahedron to videos

GrumpyMidlifeCrisis 0 points 26 points (+26|-0) ago

The reason she can't answer that is because it's her job to treat all Schedule 1 drugs as equally as bad as each other.

All Schedule 1 drugs, in her on-the-job viewpoint, are addictive, bad, terrible, naughty, and there is nothing good about them--Period.

It's bullshit, but it's the truth. I believe another DEA head said, "Legalization is not in my vocabulary." The reason he said that is the same. It's their job to treat these particular drugs a certain way. Again, it's bullshit but that's why she's answering like this.

If the age of consent was 16-years-old in the host country and there were no images of individuals under the age of 16, I don't understand why the sub was banned.

Why have the social programs failed to pull them up? There are so many programs just for blacks amass minorities yet they are still the poorest among us.
