My bank account is pretty much an escrow account between my employer and people I owe money. Money is deposited on pay day, then is dispersed to those to which it is owed. And... submitted by definitelynotabot to Showerthoughts

It sounds like you're living paycheck to paycheck. If so here is what you do.
Stop buying shit.
There are probably a lot things you spend money on that are not absolutely necessary. Do you ever buy soda, beer or cigarettes? If so stop buying them. Get off the soda and cigarettes as they are horrible to your health. Drink Iced tea or something. A man has to have his beer, so buy that once a month, or whatever time interval you choose that works with your budget.
How much do you spend on games? Don't buy games for awhile. $60 a pop can add up fast. Do you like to get the newest ipad, iphone, iwatch, iwhatever or some other tech brand? Not anymore you don't. Stick with your current phone for awhile. Who cares if it looks old? No one but you. I spend $40 a month for my phone. That's it. The reason is I use my phone for phone calls and texting. Anything else I grab a nearby desktop or my laptop for things I need to know right at that second, (which is a pretty rare moment). Stop using your phone for music. They have these old fashioned ipods that have been around for awhile and you don't need to use any data to listen to your music. Who cares if it looks like you're an old man using last decades tech? No one but you.
Don't shop hungry. When you do shop, look at the prices. You'll be surprised how much eggs are right now. If you take decent care of your clothes and they are not from Walmart, they can actually last quite awhile, so there's another expense that can be decreased. Brace yourself! Winter is coming! Turn the heat down. Bundle up with blankets and sweatshirts, unless you have an infant, then keep your child comfortable.
Cut the cord. Whether it be Comcast or someone else, lose the T.V. It's an added expense where just about anything that is on will eventually be available. I love the Walking Dead, but I catch the "new" episodes on Netflix.
This is most of the basics and if you start doing this, you'll see other parts of your life that you spend money on that you find to be unnecessary. Good luck.

It might be best to view it as a street performance for tourists instead of a vendor who's primary goal is to sell ice cream. Kind of like watching a magician busking some slight of hand. Only, you get a delicious treat afterwards.

Here you all go:
My wife is an event manager at a company. People from all walks of life come to this space to book events from weddings, to birthday parties to wakes. She has had the job for over a year now. Earlier this year she had an event that went into the wee hours of the morning. However, before the event could officially end, rival gang members, who were both invited to the event, decided to use beer bottles and salt shakers as shanks and slash each other's faces. In addition to this there was a separate event where someone had fired a gun in the parking lot. No one was hurt as the gun was fired into the air, but it was still an issue, obviously.
As the company wants to try to remain a family friendly establishment, future slashings had to be prevented. In order to do this, and without appearing to be racist, the company decided no more alcohol could be served past midnight and the event had to be over by 1am. This went for all events, no exceptions.
Fast forward a few months later and a lady (Mrs Racecard) walks in and wants to have an event. She learns about the midnight rule and makes a few remarks about how that could be seen as racist. My wife wonders silently about how this could be as this is a rule applied to everyone, not just obvious gang members. Regardless the lady wants to book an event for a specific day, but does not put any money down.
A few weeks pass and my wife gets a call from a local colleague. This person is pretty cool, letting my wife know about who in the community is okay to book an event with and who she might want to "double book" an event on. They let her know Mrs. Racecard is trouble, typically having parties with rival gang members. Needless to say, sometimes violence breaks out at these parties. But Mrs. Racecard don't care, because she brought a good time to all involved.
Alarmed my wife contacts the local gang enforcement unit (who she is on a first name basis with) and sure enough they confirm Mrs Racecard is trouble and to not have an event with her. Mrs Racecard even had a brother die from a gang related shooting at a party within the last two years. My wife tells her boss (Mrs. Sit-on-my-hands-and-wait-for-the-Universe-to-end) who says they'll pass it on to corporate. My wife tells me and I tell her regardless of what corporate says, she is not going to work that night. This may sound controlling, but it is only out of fear for her safety.
Another week passes and Mrs. Racecard walks in to put the money down to book the event. My wife goes in the back to tell sit-on-my-hands. Sit-on-my-hands says to go ahead and book the event. My wife informs her boss of my determination to keep her from work on that day (i.e. flatten her tires). Her boss contacts corporate. Meanwhile Mrs. Racecard is waiting for a response by yelling in a poor servers face about how poorly she is being treated. In her defense it was an hour, but the poor server did not deserve it. Finally corporate comes back and says they'll hold the event and can have the event until 1:30am, purely because this lady has already threatened to sue on discrimination even though she has spent exactly $0 on the establishment.
By the way the company in question is a government entity, so local government has decided to endanger employees rather than risk a race lawsuit.
So that's it so far. Just wanted to share because shit may go down.
Tl:dr There might be a gang fight and I don't want my wife to die.

Sarah Silverman admits she made up wage-gap story. submitted by Grumpy_Old_Man to news

Does anyone actually care about this? Who cares if a comedian lied about a story about wage income or anything else. All comedians do is make shit up. Now that one person caught her lying this is news? What about all those politicians simply making stuff up to prove their point? That doesn't...

This seems like a quote taken out of context. Regardless, it's hilarious to me that the media has to go back to the early 1970's in order to find a quote that paints Sanders in a bad light. Whereas with any other candidate you have to go back only a few years, aka, within this decade, to find something that paints them in a bad light.
I'm going to go ahead and say that even if this is not taken out of context, Sanders most likely does not think this way anymore. People can change their minds in 40 years time, amazingly enough. If there are those here who don't believe me, then I suppose those same people will believe something like the internet will never exist, we will be on Mars by the year 2000, only gay people can get AIDS, and leaded gas can in no way be having a negative impact on the environment.

Have you even read the above exchange? The guy gave no reason for his dislike of Disney after being asked. All he did was insult the person questioning him. In my experience the only people who dislike things for no reason and fly off the handle when asked reasonable questions are racists. So until he answers the question, that is how I think of him.
There was absolutely no reason for him to respond the way he did. Just as there is no reason for haters of this new film to be hating on it because blacks and women are in it. Blacks and women were in the OT, but somehow that does not apply. Because they act the same way, I will treat them the same way.
