It is a trade agreement between the US, Canada, Mexico and several Pacific Asian countries (but oddly enough not China). Little is known about it because it was negotiated in near secrecy and the representatives voting on it only had access to a percentage of the chapters of the agreement, and are not allowed to publicize any parts of it.

Speculation and leaks has/show it lowering tariffs which would make overseas manufacturing more profitable (yay less jobs in the US!), increase the cost of generic medications to protect the profits of pharmaceutical companies, and make products imported from other countries comparatively cheaper (discouraging people from spending more on domestically manufactured goods(an effect of lower tariffs)). One of the scariest things it is alleged to do is give corporations the ability to sue entire countries for the percieved loss of potential profits.

From the looks of it it is a while lot of no bueno to me. Another thing that is interesting is that this is Obama's latest objective to pass and it is getting overwhelming support from Republicans and overwhelming dissent from Democrats. Something doesn't smell right there.

Cruel and unusual treatment, perhaps. Torture, unless they shoved an entire beef tenderloin up there, no.

It was in effort for them to stop starving/dehydrating themselves. One could argue it was medical attention.

General practicians ascertain general health, why shouldn't they make sure everything is generally in order?
