Oxford University bans free speech magazine as "offensive" submitted by macredsmile to news

It's the student union banning a magazine from their fresher's fair. Obnoxious, but not the same as the university banning the magazine altogether. I wish people wouldn't mix up student unions with the universities: student unions aren't half as important as they think they are.

I can imagine that even if I went along with it, I would get criticism for not being enthusiastic about it. I read an idea recently that men can handle disagreement and a man will go along with a supervisor's ideas even if they didn't personally agree, but for female supervisors, this is not enough: they can't stand the idea that somebody disagrees with them.

If you use "fucking" as an intensifier, I automatically disregard what you say. Example: "Welding aluminium is fucking difficult" is much less believable than "Welding aluminium is difficult." submitted by svipbo to Showerthoughts

Probably because it makes it look as if you are bullshitting and don't have any real expertise in the area.

You are fucking stupid.

See how useful this technique is, it means I know to ignore you.

Welding is not that difficult

You didn't mention aluminium though. It's like you didn't read what I wrote. I can file your opinions in the "trash folder" and my opinion of how difficult welding is can remain unchanged.
