do you want more people to leave reddit? maybe this is a way to do it submitted by gegio to MeanwhileOnReddit

I think that over here we ought to be trying to hold ourselves to a higher standard. And furthermore if they catch wind that it's Voat doing that there are still exponentially more loyal Reddit users than Voat users. Let's not start a war with a site that outnumbers us 1000:1

Score one for body cams! UC police officer charged with murder after body cam video released. submitted by MCVoat to news

plastination_station 0 points 12 points (+12|-0) ago

I actually live across the street from UC and was watching the live stream when they showed the video of the guy being shot. It was completely unprovoked and I have to drive home soon half expecting to drive into a riot. What's even worse is the vast majority of UC off-campus housing leases end in 2 days and July 31st - August 1st is always chaos around the area with everybody (including myself) being homeless for a night. This is going to be a fucking nightmare.

Reddit is not a safe space for smokers. submitted by MrUnimpressed to MeanwhileOnReddit

plastination_station 0 points 11 points (+11|-0) ago

As a smoker here's my justification for it:

1) I have terrible anxiety and it really helps. My sister takes pills and shit for it but I don't, I've found a different way to cope with my problems.

2) Everyone gets 1 vice. Whether you're fat, or you smoke, or you gamble, or you're just an all around condescending asshole, people aren't perfect and they get one major flaw.

3) There's an unwritten trust network amongst smokers. The conversations had around a smoke are the most real and honest of any I've every had. You learn a lot about a new workplace by getting in with smokers. Back in the way old days people actually recommended picking up smoking to learn the what's what about the people they had to deal with.

4) I know it's bad, if you think you're doing god's work by publicly telling me this, then thanks for the clue that you fall into the condescending asshole category. I'll be sure to avoid you like the plague from now on.

5) Everyone takes breaks during work. Whether it's to surf or shop online or wander off to take a shit for 20 minutes, don't act like I'm any less of an employee because I step out for 5 minutes once in a while.

6) People by nature (myself included) constantly are looking to feed their own superiority complexes. If you think you're better than me I invite you to prove it since smoking makes me no less intelligent and only slightly less fit but with much better mental health.

Should we try to make Voat a Direct Democracy? submitted by plastination_station to ideasforvoat

Are you referring to the idea HAES or what? People are going to hold their own opinions but I was thinking about voting on site wide changes such as anything that gains traction on IFV.

What do you do for work? Do you enjoy your job? Do you consider it your career? Where are you at, job wise, compared to your peers? submitted by mastranios to AskVoat

I operate a multitude of 3D scanning machines for a small business (~25 total employees). I don't hate what I do and I love the people that I work with but the longer I'm here, the more and more I'm starting to catch on that the owners don't take the best of care of my fellow employees. But I am still just an intern (I graduate college May 2016) and I plan on working here for a while but I am certain that it will not be my career. I am definitely starting a business with a friend of mine soon after I graduate.

I know there has been a tiresome debate about protecting jailbait because it isn't illegal, but is it? I checked the sub and /v/TrueJailbait, where I found a lot of naked 13 year old girls. What now? submitted by Stoic to AskVoat

This is why I still propose that we make this site a direct democracy. There will inevitably be issues (like this) and since this is the internet it is easy to get everyone to weigh in on changes we would like to see.

We cannot afford to have this filth on our site. CP enthusiasts; I'm sorry that it's your fetish, but your fetish is destroying young people's lives and has no place on an open forum.
