Hyperion by Dan Simmons is a must read. The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury is also a favorite.

Because the question is worded in not such a good way. Of course everyone is going to pick the "fair" option.

It's interesting you say you only believe in science. The most spiritual I ever feel is when I study natural science. It's what led me to pantheism.
How can I improve my reading speed? submitted by pwn to books

I guarantee no one who reads 300 books in a year doesn't absorb much. It really boils down to what you want out of reading. Do you simply want to read a buttload of books, or do you want to read more while fully understanding the message? I think finding your own balance is the greatest help. There are tricks, like not subvocalizing and using your peripheral vision. To me, subvocalizing is a huge part of reading, though. Especially if you're reading great prose. Who wants to breeze through lyrical writing? On the other hand, using peripheral vision has really helped me find my balance. It's given my speed a little boost without losing much comprehension. The site already linked should help you with that. But find what works for you and run with it.

I plan on reading his other books. His catalog is huge though, thanks for the recommendations!
