I like the general idea. My concern, however, is that people will try to shotgun low-effort fluff in order to get votes, the kind of junk that you see on reddit all the time - memes, buzzfeed-esque titles, reaction GIFs, etc. Determining what's quality content shouldn't necessarily be based on up or...

It's not left and right so much as it is authoritarian versus liberty. The audience here tends to be much more libertarian-minded (little 'l') than other parts of the internet, especially reddit. I think an anti-censorship, anti-mod (that is, authority) mentality is what drove a lot of people over here. So a lot of us share that even with plenty of other types coming for all sorts of other reasons.

The people posting there are doing it to drown out the trolls who post gore. Most of the people upvoating their posts are also doing it to balance out the gore.

Ok, my problem with this line of thinking is that you can use the exact same logic to support radical feminist "kill all men" arguments. They say that problems exists within the male demographic that are so widespread and pervasive that even if you don't explicitly participate in the actions that create those problems, you are necessarily complicit for not speaking up or trying to solve the problem. I am not a misogynist, oppressor, etc., I am not the ones who commit offenses, nor am I to blame for anything other than my own actions. The collectivist guilt that radical feminists try to push on people is a fallacy, and that applies no matter what names and labels you substitute in there.
