Regarding questionable content submitted by Atko to announcements

Waspocracy 0 points 18 points (+18|-0) ago

I think this entire move was a non-strategic default out of fear. It's understandable too.

But quick reactions without thought are exactly what caused the exodus of Digg in 2010 and Reddit recently. In brief, to add on to your point, it might have been the right move, but it might not have. Either way, it should've been thought through as you mentioned rather than a quick reaction.

I know there has been a tiresome debate about protecting jailbait because it isn't illegal, but is it? I checked the sub and /v/TrueJailbait, where I found a lot of naked 13 year old girls. What now? submitted by Stoic to AskVoat

Agreed. Like I told OP, there needs to be proof one way or another that they're under 18. Just because they "look" under 18 doesn't mean they are.

That said, those that are under 18 should be removed, but I don't think the entire subverse should be removed.

What happened to Digg submitted by ops_mom to OutOfTheLoop

Waspocracy 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago

Correct. This occurred when the founder of Digg left the company and sold it to some firm.

Digg faced problems due to so-called "power users" who would manipulate the article recommendation features to only support one another's postings, flooding the site with articles only from these users and making it impossible to have genuine content from non-power users appear on the front page.

You didn't answer OP's question about Reddit, so I'll add on to that.

This article goes in to depth about the whole ordeal and how Reddit is alienating people. In short:

“We want to be open about our involvement: We will ban subreddits that allow their communities to use the subreddit as a platform to harass individuals when moderators don’t take action,” Reddit wrote in a post announcing the bans. “We’re banning behavior, not ideas.”

Then there are users that are annoyed with it:

I was around here a little 7-8 years ago, but I've only really spent a lot of time here the past 3 years. From my perspective, it's becoming more and more like facebook - more reposts, more tedious, tired memes and clickbait posts about nothing. More running jokes which go nowhere and never end. Less substance, less interesting banter and less of the stuff you can't find anywhere else. Of course, maybe it was always that way? Maybe people just need an excuse to be melodramatic? Maybe people are just getting old? Maybe I can add a couple filler lines at the end here and pass them off as questions?

I'd be interested in helping as well.

Maybe we should have an upvoat party and whoever gets upvoated enough first gets to be mod.

Tales of game library backlog woe submitted by Shakyamuni to gaming

Waspocracy 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

Ditto on everything. I have about 300 games and I've only played 15. On an average week, I put about 2 hours in games or less.

I started XCOM: Enemy Unknown last night. I don't even know how long I've owned it.

Honestly, I clicked on this thread because I thought you were talking about Tales Of series, a bunch of JRPG's. It took me over a year to beat Tales of Graces f. I need a lot of help to catch up to how fast they're making those games.
