U.S. Congresswoman: Russia is bombing al-Qaeda terrorists. Why is this a bad thing? submitted by mindful to videos

I have no love for Putin at all. In fact, I think he's dangerous. I don't believe for a second that his motives in Syria are at all altruistic. But his motives and ambitions notwithstanding, he's on the right side of this conflict. If the terrorists are wrong to the power of x, then Assad is wrong to the power of x - y, but at least Assad isn't dragging people out into the desert and cutting off their heads for all the world to see on the Internet. Assad isn't raping women and children. Assad never had any ambition to rule over a caliphate of jihadists who want to bring about the End Times like some kind of Doomsday cult.

What are some egregious examples of doublespeak in use today? submitted by TheHemingWay to AskVoat

I think "misspoke" can be used honestly to mean "fucked up," but I do agree that it's more often used to sugar-coat being caught in a lie.

Something Very Very Wrong w/Voting Machines in KS? submitted by Wildfire_ca to news

TheHemingWay 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

The former barely ever happens.

So, you agree it does happen. You know, "barely" is subjective, and there's really no way to know how often it happens. I said, "Let's nail everybody." You seem to be fine with fraud as long as it's not corporations doing it. You're part of a bigger problem than voter fraud: voters who think that fraud is only a one-sided issue and excuse it because it "barely ever happens." Fuck that. If it happens, it's wrong and should be investigated and prosecuted. I don't give a fuck who does it or who benefits from it.

This is where you say, "You're never going to get rid of all voter fraud, but..." Fuck that too. It's true you can't get rid of it. It's also true that you can investigate and prosecute it. You can also take measures to prevent it, such as independent auditing of machines and (yes) confirming the identities of people voting.

Let's not forget that there are other types of fraud and tampering too, such as intimidation, buying votes, destroying ballots, etc. All of these, wherever they occur, are problems. Because one might be bigger than the others is no reason to pretend the others are not problems. If you don't want all fraud investigated and prosecuted, then you're either a fucking idiot or a partisan hack.
