When I come to Voat, I now get a page that is "checking your browser." It appears to be linked to preventing DDOS attacks. What exactly is happening there? submitted by pilgrimboy14 to AskVoat

Someone seems to be DDoS'ing Voat, so they're flipped the emergency mode on their Cloudflare, so only proper browsers can connect (if you try to access a page from a script, or odd browser, Cloudflare will block you out, e.g. bots which could be abusing Voat)

Wouldn't be surprised if it's assholes from SRS, who also claimed to have gotten Voat's PayPal banned

In which country and under which legislation will Voat finally be hosted? submitted by trek to AskVoat

Sadly Sealand has pretty much no infrastructure, including servers. If it was possible it'd be pretty cool, but the iffy laws mean it might still count as being hosted in the UK, and will enjoy spying from the GCHQ :(

What's the long answer?

Are you saying that everything is running in some sort of message queue? or are you referring to the amount of incoming requests being "queued" up?

Either way, what's being done to improve that issue? Voat is (hopefully) going to grow, so I hope you have a plan to improve this. (also, any details on the server set up/future server set up? would love to know the architecture of Voat)

Currently in Switzerland AFAIK, but there are quite a few countries with good freedom of speech, I think Estonia is a pretty good place, they even allow for non-Estonians to register companies online in minutes, and are somewhat known for being the land of Bitcoin.

Hong Kong is apparently a pretty good place too, I think servers might be cheap there:

The freedom and privacy of communication of Hong Kong residents shall be protected by law. No department or individual may, on any grounds, infringe upon the freedom and privacy of communication of residents except that the relevant authorities may inspect communication in accordance with legal procedures to meet the needs of public security or of investigation into criminal offences.
