The shadow banning on Reddit is out of control. submitted by metabeing to MeanwhileOnReddit

That's how censorship works. It's like a locomotive. It starts very slowly, gaining momentum and speed with every use, until its beyond control.

I know some concepts/opinions/images are really shitty, but they are the price we pay for freedom.(In another world I'd love to see rednecks waving flags and shouting for their neighbors rights to fuck whatever they want and believe whatever they want.)

the SHE situation needs a resolution now. shes called the FBI for a situation that didnt need it. she deletes before talking. she made and enforced a pedantic rule. how is she still a mod? submitted by escapefromredditbay to AskVoat

1) Enough with the martyr story. Mods, by the very nature of their work, must put themselves out there and be open to public scrutiny. @She knew(or, rather, should have known) this when requesting to become a mod. Intelligent users separate mod accounts from their personal posting accounts for this very reason. A mod account should only be used for official moderation in the subverse absolutely not as a form of super user account for regular posting and the building of a larger web identity. If @she had done this, there would be no real issue with harassment, imagined or otherwise. We don't live in the 90's anymore and no one should have to be told what has become common sense. A mod should do his/her work, post a very concise(not open to interpretation) explanation for their actions, and move on.

2) Don't apologize for other people. It's a cheap maneuver, and we as a community should strive to be above that. A user can only be only responsible for his/her own actions and we should all know that by now.

3) Read, and encourage others to read, the mod logs and do some simple research before forming opinions on the actions of moderators, rogue or otherwise. Part of being a "sensible and reasonable adult" is recognizing that users on forums do not speak with the one voice and that the short-sighted, emotionally charged posts of a number of users do not mean that others are not having thoughtful and civilized discussion. If you want to handle a subject with maturity, then I suggest you begin by participating in mature discussion rather than crossing your arms and calling everyone in the room children.

A mathematician may have uncovered widespread election fraud in Kansas, and now Kansas is trying to silence her. submitted by gbj1301 to news

Thanks to Snowden we know that not only does the NSA keep tabs on everything we do online, they have manipulated manufacturers into giving them unrestricted access to you hardware.

CP is the perfect weapon. It destroys all credibility of anyone even tangentially related to it, the public openly condemns the accused with little evidence, possession carries massive sentences, and it can easily be planted from a distance via the internet.

'Anti-racist' protesters being violent AGAIN at Reclaim rallies submitted by dildonkers to Australia

ProfKraken 3 points -3 points (+0|-3) ago

If you can't see past the surface level, yes, they appear very different, but at their core the motivating factor is hatred based on broad classification. "Isms" are the problem. An ism is a broad generalization, like "all chairs have four legs". There is often some truth in isms(for instance most chairs do have four legs, even if some have three or even none) that's what makes them so attractive. Our brains evolved for threat assessment and survival, and so this tendency toward classification was quite desirable. Even if 1 in 20 bears might not want to kill one, its better to err on the side of caution. This why so often one might find oneself making snap judgments. It's easy, just like hatred.

Yeah, man, but she was hot. Totally different. I don't know about you, but I've never seen any teenage girls develop a crush on older authority figures. Way different.
