I agree wholeheartedly with the blocking of /v/askvoat.

However, I'm not sure why this is causing everyone to question voat as a whole though. Askvoat was unlisted as a default, and the admins wrote a post basically saying (reading between the lines): "Yeah, we don't like this either, but we're following the rules, because the rules need to apply to everyone"

Voat is an open community. They are doing EXACTLY what I'd hope an open forum did: Not showing favoritism or treating people differently. In this case I personally wish they would, I think She is a big problem. However, if I cheer when "the other side" is being treated unfairly, then what right do I have to complain when "my side" is treated differently? Once the rules stop being enforced equally, you never know which way the winds will shift in the future.

Bernie Sanders Would Tax The Income Of The Wealthiest Americans At 90 Percent submitted by KentStateNeverAgain to news

I'll take a stab at it.

Let's say you make $100. Let's say tax rate for the first $90 is 25%. The marginal tax rate for the remaining $10 is 90%.

This means you make $100, but you end up paying $31.50 in taxes. $22.5 (90.25) +$9 (10,9)

The idea is that you're paying more on how much more you're making than everyone else, not the entire thing.

/I still think 90% is excessive, even knowing that most of the really rich people aren't going to be making most of their money from salary anyway, so the 90% wouldn't even matter that much to them.

I agree wholeheartedly, but to me this is actually proof that this won't become Reddit 2.0 in my mind. The biggest problem over there (in my eyes) is the SRS cabal, and how they are allowed to act with impunity. Any questions about them are ignored, and the admins just pretend it's not a problem.

In this case though, the equivalent happened, and the admins stepped up and said "this is a problem. We don't like it, but we have to enforce the rules. We've taken away what power we can (removing it as a default), but we have to be fair and let the community do what it will."

I feel like the best real solution would be to start up an alternative verse, and run it like it's supposed to be run. Eventually it will become a default (because I really think a true "askvoat" type place should be a default).

In this case, someone gamed the system. It sucks for us in the short run, but it proves that the system is in place and is being honored. With the modlogs, it's easy to see which verses are being run correctly, and Voat admins have already said they will listen to the community (I liked the idea of 100 ccp needed, even though I don't have it, and agreed with his logic, but community said no, so he listened). We have a great system here, it's just going through some growing pains, and it's WAY too early to write it off as "lost."

That's just it though, not really. They can't evaluate the situation because they don't know just how dangerous it is. Also, add to that the fact that each victim exponentially increases the amount of resources that are required to help them AND the likelyhood that once one person goes in, even more go in, and it grows from a "tragedy" to a "mass casualty" pretty quickly.

Why the AskVoat takeover was a direct result of cronyism and you should leave Voat now. submitted by FitMachoNaziAtheist to ProtectVoat

My $.02:

It's unfortunate, but I feel this was right, especially if first ban is a temp. We can't be what we're fighting against for a number of reasons, and if we're brigading we're just using the exact same tactics we abhor in the opposition, which means we lose the high ground.
