We have never been a democracy. We have always been a Constitutional Republic.

I was under the impression that we were a Constitutional Republic because of the constitution, which limits our representative's powers. Besides, both the constitution and the pledge state that we are a Republic. I don't really see how that's splitting hairs, when it was laid out by our founding fathers that we were never really meant to be a democracy.
