Further digging has revealed the following information. Heather is doing much better according to recent reports. Her current condition is being kept private for obvious reasons but she is now receiving the support she needs in a care facility being paid the $4,000 a month the family was receiving (a condition of the lawsuit). She was last reported attending high school (undisclosed location) and showing dramatic improvement

After the case came to light in 2012, the children of the obeasts were taken away as well. However, they were returned to the mother's care. She currently lives in the same city as before but with other family members. They had a $50,000 bond on each of their heads for a while when they escaped to Florida. They returned to Washington state to appear in court and have stayed since that time.

Washington state still has a very broken system. The state's budget allots the most money for social services. However, the case load is 30% higher than other comparable states around the nation. The establishing of the new database is a step in the right direction, however, unless they can hire more responsible people who care about the well being of children, then it won't change very much anytime soon.

It's hard to parse out how to feel about it. Maybe the kids did nothing wrong. Maybe they were part of the problem. They did live alongside the girl and didn't do anything. Maybe the parents kept their mouths' shut?
From the pictures, the kids looked relatively healthy (not nearly as big as their dad).

Kinda like a wet whistling right? Yeah, we thought of that too.
Maybe the walking and the weight loss belief might be part of a mental condition or something. I mean, who wants to work in vitamin retail as a goal? That's some mental illness right there.
The Smiling Man is actually a good example of how off this creature was. However, I couldn't replicate the movements if I tried and I doubt anything truly like it has ever been captured in any kind of footage. The best example I can think of is from the original 1996 "Shall we dance" There was a character (AOKI) in that movie that moved like that during a scene in a bathroom and even squeaked his shoes on the floor as he moved.

Whelp, those are some images I'll need to forget before bed.

In all seriousness, nothing but respect for working next to a psych ward. I had a health instructor that used to be on the drug task force for the city. A part of the training was to stay overnight at the detox/psych portion of the emergency area doing basic security and observation. In one night he got to see several people pace around mumbling to themselves (he said not to ask what they were mumbling), one person who believed that bugs were crawling under their skin, a guy who would repeatedly break out of his restraints by dislocating joints, people who would randomly change emotion from docile to violent, and a lady who was singing the national anthem at the top of her lungs for the entire night.
