They made the whole console taste awful. Not buying. Fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.

Linux and open source have won, get over it | ZDNet submitted by Mixplate to technology

Microsoft has a long history of holding back the industry until they were ready to compete and then using their might to force the industry to do what they wanted. This is why we're all now running Windows 10 on microsoft surface tablets and using Windows Phones to communicate with each other and access the Windows Azure cloud while Linux languishes in a tiny backwater doing very little.

Oh wait, that's not what happened at all. Linux is everywhere and MS has lost control and can't keep progress back any more so they have little choice but to make their stuff work with Linux now.

As for Apple, I think the article is rather disingenuous implying that Apple has only just 'got' open source with the release of swift when in fact they've been contributing and releasing open source software for a long time. OS X wouldn't exist without open source and they certainly wouldn't be having the success they're having in the science and technology sectors without supporting the UNIX technologies and tools that their operating system is built on.

In reality, UNIX won. The nice thing is I remember reading an article back in '98 which said that NT would win and UNIX would die out. The department I was working in was keen to move everyone over to NT and shut down their Novell servers and get rid of the UNIX boxes. The computing department fought back and kept it all, and these days almost everything is running on some flavour of UNIX or UNIX-like OS. Windows is now a backwater just about holding its own on the desktop and some environments where they've standardised on Windows server so they can run Exchange etc but the smart money moved away years back and is benefiting greatly from it. I don't know what MS is going to do that will be successful in the future but their Windows monopoly is over. They no longer have all the killer applications under their control and even their crown jewels of Office are available everywhere now thanks to Office 360 (which they had to do) so there's very little reason except for games to have a Windows PC and while I do personally have a Windows PC for Steam I find myself using it less and less these days as I'm happy with my PS4, PS3, PS2, Xbox 360 and WiiU, not to mention my raspberry Pi with RetroPi.

Did anybody really think they were choosing a leader? They're both puppets and whoever got in would have the same hand up their arse making the real decisions for them.

I don't see the problem. If it said 'Glory be to God' in english then would there be a problem? That's all it says. I'm more offended that it says Glory be to God than for it to say so in Arabic since I don't believe in God. As it is though, there's freedom of speech so people who do believe in God are allowed to pay for such adverts.

We're not talking about islamic nations, we're talking about the UK. It is a multicultural nation and there are multiple religions. Christianity is on the way out (no stopping it at this point I would say) and Islam is basically picking up steam because of the influx of immigrants. Whatever you may think, I still don't see the issue with this advert in the UK. I have muslim friends who believe in god, and also christian friends who believe in god (and oddly enough, it is the same god but whatever) and while I disagree with all of them about god, I stand up for their right to say they believe in it because the UK is a free country. The problem isn't that London has elected a muslim mayor, if anything that is a sign that most people are grown up enough to accept that someone can do a good job whatever their beliefs. Where it gets sticky is when the religious try and force their faith on everyone. This advert isn't doing that. It is calling out to muslims. If muslims preach hate then they deserve the be held accountable to the law, just as when anyone else does.

This whole thread is full of islamophobic little minds. Islam isn't the problem any more than Christianity is a problem. Both are hate filled religions attracting people who don't want to think but we don't win them over by banning what they have to say. We win them over with education and that's a long term goal. Christianity is pretty much dead because of education, Islam will go the same way. Meanwhile, hating them and hating their language isn't helping. Stop the hate.

Also, atheists are even more ruthlessly persecuted in many nations. Islamic states merely consider christians misguided, but atheists are detested and killed when found.

What other choice is there? Windows 10 is the perfect answer assuming the question is "why do you game on a console?"
