you can go vegetarian on pennies and be well fed. All the poor nations are "accidentally" vegetarian because of that. India? beans and rice. Mexico? beans and rice and tortillas. Rural china? Rice and beans.

We produce more than enough food, and there are always cheaper alternatives to meat, we just live in a culture that feels they NEED bacon, sausage, and eggs for breakfast, burger to lunch and steak for dinner (or similar meat-based dishes for each meal) when in reality the average human can do with much much less and more veggies in their plate, or cheaper grains/seeds/legumes.

they made it so that any recorded footage has to be released within a certain amount of time (aka, immediately) which diminishes the ability for people to compile documentaries with various sources... so we're stuck with a few long "boring" videos with a few seconds of "action" instead of what other videos managed to do before when they had time to edit and compile over a few months/years.

I'm realizing that the community is so much smaller that I feel more obliged to contribute content and/or comments.

I guess not competing with thousands of very very active redditors should make it easier to post submissions that others will enjoy... Just a matter of actually doing it I guess.

Why do so many people not know that there is a distinct, real difference between racism, discrimination, and stereotyping? submitted by zambeezy to AskVoat

google definition of racism:

the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.

Its a very blurred like between stereotype and racism, "black kids listen to loud music that hurts my ears, they should instead listen to mozart like my more refined taste". Which one is that? "Harmless" stereotype or subtle racism?

Thinking that a brown person with a turban is going to hurt you... you are automatically assuming they value your life and obviously theirs, so they must be savage sub-human creatures.

Saying "all illegal immigrants are criminal rapists" assumes there are no hard worker seasonal workers that overstayed their visas and are slaving away with less-than-minimum wages because the alternative is joining their family in slow starvation.

Also. "Discrimination" is acting on your own prejudices/stereotypes, which may or may not be linked to racism, or sexism, or you just don't like people who wear suspenders (I don't blame you).

We just don't like being called racists because it equates us to the double plus bad people who owned slaves or killed jews. But if you at any point considered "wow, somalian food sure smells bad", you are at least a little racist (and mistaken, it smell delicious), which is perfectly normal and natural; we're hard wired to prefer the people we look like from a survival point of view. The issue is whether or not you ACT on it, including your words and who you support who shares or promote those words and actions.

I'm just giving common examples, we are all guilty of it, where does "white people can't dance/jump" fall into? its a characteristic which makes one race lesser than the other.
